It's not confirmed, but a Demon's Souls sequel would seem like a no brainer, especially considering the attention the game got.

As web forum NeoGAF points out, a podcast from Japanese gaming news source Dengeki hints that a sequel for a challenging and hard game released last year would be coming out this fall. The game is said to have very "interesting" gameplay systems. Sounds like... Demon's Souls!

This is not official confirmation, however. It is from Dengeki, would could be hinting as information it has under embargo or something.

Word on the street is that Sony signed a first look deal if developer From Software made a sequel. The game is a PS3 exclusive and Sony Computer Entertainment published the title in Japan. Apparently, From Software was relentless in its refusal to bend to Sony's suggestions to change game play, save system and make the title easier. Rumor has it that nobody thought the game was going to be the sleeper hit it eventually became, which is why Atlus, not Sony, distributed the game in North America.

The game was a hit. And if rumors are true, Sony has a first look at the sequel. If there is a sequel and From Software doesn't or isn't able to develop the title, then we'd imagine Sony would farm it out to an in-house developer.

I don't know how I'd feel about a sequel. For once, my preference would be DLC content since I've grown somewhat attached to my character, his gear, and his build.

If they do go with it though, my only request would be allowing co-op with others while all in body form, and a friend invite option. I know it would go against the creator's design of having to always work with strangers in mute fashion, but there are times where I did wish I had someone I could communicate with, or knew beforehand.

Only thing I'd maybe like to see in a sequel is a bit more story. The dialogue options from NPCs were nice but they'd only give 2-3 lines of back story before repeating lines which was a bummer, because they were pretty interesting. Better drop rates also wouldn't hurt.

And I agree that they should DLC before a sequel. They've set it up perfectly too with the 6th archstone, but I know that will never happen.

I wouldn't mind more story in the form of 'lore' (perhaps add a new form of messages in areas for lore purposes, or add collectables with info on them or something). What made Demon's Souls enjoyable for me was that I went about and did as I pleased, and bugged an NPC once in awhile to say something. Story wasn't force-fed, since for the few moments you could sit by for a cutscene, it was skippable.

Made the game very replayable for me since it was 90% gameplay (1% running up to Monumental first time, other 9% staring at the "YOU DIED" message) and I could plow through it without interruption.

I'd much prefer a sequel if it fixed some of the game play mechanics that were pretty annoying.

Off the top of my head:
    - Showing what an item is before you pick it up, or at least show its weight.
    - Being able to compare stats with the weapon you have equipped when at a vendor.
    - Fix World Tendency getting reset sometimes when you log in.

Of course I wouldn't mind if they patched those in either, then did DLC.

A clearer equip menu would definitely be nice, rather than memorizing all those damn icons, and see exactly how much a stat bonus means for you, rather than having to try it out for yourself and see you wasted some stones upgrading it for nothing.

I never really used the vendor though for stats since they were all basic, and always was weaker than what I had equipped since my main weapons were upgrades, or god-soul weapons.

I agree on the item-weight thing though. Got annoyed when I had to drop a shitload of my herbs because I didn't realize that a particular item I tried picking up off the ground ended up being the entire brushwood set. >.<

More methods of world tendency being affected would be nice, as well as it having more of an affect on the world.
(pure black = harsh weather/rain for example, have it affect your movement and such, would make things more challenging)

This would be cool, same for character tendency too though.

i'd like to actually see where i'm going and have a character that's smart enough to not fall off a edge because it swung a sword.

    and harder boss fights.

The boss fights were hard enough. Main problem with them were the ones that had no means of countering ranged/magic damage (5-1 boss comes to mind), or ones that were way too easy to exploit either due to their bad pathfinding, or abuse of land geometry.

I'd love to see people take on Flamelurker on a flat plane with nothing to hide behind.

Regarding my comment earlier on the icons....

yea, make all the bosses like flamelurker or maneater. the rest weren't a threat unless i wanted them to be. a blind boss sounds cool in concept, but in reality just means i can spam soul arrow from safety all day. i'll exclude pvp version of old monk because that's too random.

i'd like more npc interactions in a sequel too, in the style of boris tanking penatrator for you.

also make it easier to coordinate co-op w/ friends and a minimal in-game chat system can't be too hard to make.

    So, yeah.

Anyone kind enough to give me a hand with something?

I'm coming up to my 4th play through now (just 1-4 left), and I guess I just have the worst luck possible with geckos, I've farmed 3-2, 3-3, 4-2, 4-3 each play through, killed them with Sword of Searching, my luck is level 25, but for the life of me I can't get a pure darkmoonstone or a pure moonlightstone to drop (I think they're the ones I need.)

Also tried for pure bladestone on pure black world tendency for about 3 hours, to no avail. If anyone has spare stones I can use, or the +5 weapon for either of those I could borrow for a few seconds it would be greatly appreciated.

I am sure this has been said before but thread is huge and just skimming I didn't find it. What class is generally considered the best to start with, wanting melee focused that can use some magic. Thanks!

The best class to start with is Royal. Reasons being: You get Soul Arrow from the get go, a catalyst to use magic with, a starting soul level of 1 (easier to level up that stats you want), Fragrant ring from the start (1MP every 4 secs), and a silver coronet for a 20% MP boost from the start as well. Silver catalyst also has a 20% MP boost, but it's only active when it's on-hand so less useful. Just make sure to hit up 4-1 as soon as possible and get the Crescent Falchion from the ledge behind the Black Dual-Katana Skeleton and you'l be set.
