Also be careful with the black phantom tentacle face witch thing while climbing the stairs to maneater, not any place to hide like when you fought the earlier one. If you have a weapon that can knock it on the ground then just keep doing that and keep it down

you could use the Anti-magic field spell and he doesnt do anything since he only atks with magic

Bow is annoying since you have to time it between his Soul arrow of death.

I also rarely use spells on my dude, even though I got all magic/miracles learned. Total Protection on bosses and that's about it.

If you don't mind using cheap tricks or common strats...

You can arrow the first one to death through the fog if you got Morion/Rats Ring to increase damage to speed things up.

Also, a more legit strat, is to use the fire brazier in the middle of the map as cover. The Man Eater sometimes will leap forward though so watch out and dodge when appropriate.

I dont have a lava bow, so it literally takes like 500 shots to kill that one. I've been using the goblet, but I still seem to get owned in some form of chain attack every time.

Ok this is fucking stupid. I killed the one using the bow and fog trick but the second I entered the other one jumped down ontop of me and pushed me over the edge. I hard restarted my Ps3 only to find that all my arrows are used but the boss is back to full HP.

Boss fights never save progress, you get put outside the fog if you ever become disconnected from the server, or restart the game.

its just getting VERY VERY annoying because no matter what happens I keep getting killed. Ive tried the every strategy going on 4 hours now and nothing has worked.

If you do it from far enough away, he never even sees you.

If you have firestorm and mp recovery items, it makes short work of them.

Also, I'm about level 178, does anyone have spare pure darkmoonstone, pure bladestone or chunks of marrowstone?

Or the +5 weapon of any of those I could borrow for a sec. I literally have about 40 chunks of darkmoonstone but no pure, fucking lizards. Same with Bladestone.

What level range do you have to be in to team up with people at my level? I don't really get invaded or see soul stones anymore in body form on levels I haven't completed yet.

Lemme say that I love this game, but I kinda get the feeling I'm missing out on some of the awesomeness. I've tried not to read too many walkthroughs or guides, so as not to spoil the difficulty. Should I just keep plugging through, and worry about extra shit later? I'm about soul level 50 now (balanced build, testing shit out), using a combination of sword and board and spells.

My suggestion would be to just keep playing. In order to get the platinum trophy and enjoy the full effect of Demon's Souls you'll have to beat the game 3-4 times. So, just keep playing (don't look at walkthroughs because as you said, it ruins the experience a bit!) until you're done and then worry about the extra stuff on your next playthrough.

My current strategy for Maneater is just to run in with Hyper mode. Each one dies in about four hits so they don't really have time to push you off if you "zerg" them down so to speak. If this is your first playthrough, you'll probably end up having to abuse the fog glitch otherwise you'll be stuck there for hours. It's the only REALLY difficult boss in the game though, so don't get too upset.

thanks therin. and yeah i'm digging the game, i need something to do post ffxi at any rate. i'm gonna ignore the temptation to look for shinies and read the guides and just beat the game on my own.

then i'm going to harass the shit out of you about extra stuff, lol.

Idk if it helps but i beat Maneater on my 3rd attempt as Temple Knight around your level. Basically I had my best defensive gear with body form so i could use the equip burden ring and hp regen ring. By that time i think i had 30+ half or full moon grasses and i bought about 10 black fire enchant thingies. Im not sure if you're a melee class but the most important bits about that fight is getting to that center circle and using the fire as your safety pillar. Then try your hardest to focus on 1 target at a time. If you have to dodge sideways(dont dodge backward on that map unless you're on the bridge and KNOW you wont fall off) then imediately run back up to the center. The hardest parts about the fight is getting knocked off and overwhelemed, but the fire in the center of the map is really the only thing you can put between you and the monster. Also if you see a maneater start to spazz out, i really recommend not attacking it unless it was the one you have been whittling down the entire fight. Even though killing 1 as fast as possible is the way to go, you have to remember its 2 v 1 so if you can ignore 1 then thats awesome.

But then again im probably telling you stuff you already know

Does Purple Flame shield block any portion of 2-2's boss attack that's not physical? (the flamelurker I think or something)

It'll block almost all damage from Flamelurker, makes the fight a lot easier. As for Maneater, use the fire as cover and abuse warding with fresh spices.

Beat the game last night. I'm planning on starting over again as a Royal and maxing out the parameters that I didnt focus to heavily on in the first play through. Not to mention I feel that I missed quite a few important items that I want to try to get.
