I think that they tell you to "check" mobs right in the introduction cutscene. There's a part after where you can ask some guy about "fighting" or "making money" or some other thing and he tells you about it. So repeating that in the tutorial quests would be redundant.
any idea how to bypass fileplanet download and just get my trial codes to log into pol?
Where do you enter the Serial Key you receive from email address? I already have FFXI installed since I quit a couple of months ago, and I downloaded that trial thing on Fileplanet; tried to install and said it's already installed. Any help?
Open PlayOnline Viewer.
You don't want to log into any account, so cancel (if you have a password for PlayOnline Viewer).
You will see a menu to your left.
One of the options is "Join PlayOnline."
Select that and follow the instructions.
I think on the 2nd or 3rd screen you will be asked to enter your registration code for the 14-day trial.
Nvm, figured it out.
My cousin's been doing this as I got him to do the 14 day free trial. He said it was very helpful, and from my observations it has (I tested him by asking what he knows about signet and other things).
He too was told at level 5 or so to go kill a monster in Konshtat Highlands, but he wasn't stupid enough to go right out and kill it, he actually examined the monsters when we zoned in and said "These might be too hard, I think I have to level first".
He is now a rockin' lvl14 Greatsword WAR \m/ , and is loving it and wants to take Greatsword up fulltime.
I can understand frustration with the lack of a tutorial but I think part of the real fun of first starting FFXI for both me and my IRL friend who I got to play over the years was being dropped in medias res without knowing too much. When I first started I remember it told me about home points or something and said to head out and fight monsters. I remember I ran around trying to find the "gate" they were talking about for like 5 minutes before I found the gate into East Sarutabaruta. Once I got outside I starting killing stuff and hit level 3 and then I met two people who I'd stay friends with for my entire play time. We partied at level 3-4 and killed shit in East Saru for like 3 hours until we were level 7 or so then I came back to town and they taught me about the Mog/Auction House and such.
Learning stuff slowly over time was really cool. Finding out how to get a subjob and going out and collecting the items felt so cool and then learning about Jeuno this (great city where everybody gathers from around the world) was fascinating.
When my friends started playing I remembered things like this and made sure I kept to what happened to me when I first started. So I made sure I let them explore on their own and only told them the basics like using the Auction House and such. I did run them to Jeuno at one point though and one of my best memories is when my friend Kraig was playing and I was running him to Jeuno we passed through Meriphataud Mountains. When he got in range to see the spine (ps2) he asked what it was and I told him it was the spine of a dragon that we (our HNM shell) had killed a few days earlier and it's skeleton still remained. This is what kept him playing for years to come, and I totally forgot about it until he brought it up one time when we were hanging out discussing the game with his girlfriend. He was like, "Remember that spine in Meriphataud? I used to believe you really killed a monster and that was it's spine, you told me you guys were flying around in UFOs and shit killing it." Needless to say I laughed my ass off. Oh yeah I also told him the "Heroe's House" in Windurst was actually my house. He really believed most of this stuff.
This post really isn't about the 14-day free trial so about that, I think I'll maybe suggest it to a few people but I've learned not to introduce friends to the game because I've seen them fall into addiction which is sad especially when just months before you'd guys hang out and go skating everyday and stuff.
Has anyone tried to get a code within the last 12 hours? Its saying there is registration maintenance, but on the POL site nothing is mentioned
My friend tried the trial and wants to buy the game, anyone know how can he keep playing with his trial character on the full game? I can't even remember how the normal registration happens so it might be easy, but better check anyway.
