    Linksys router question

I have a Linksys WRT45G V8 and i'm concerned with how it runs...or something. Mainly my problem is that when I play on Halo 3 online, i'm always the one with the bad connection. I tried to forward for it but it said it closed my NAT. I heard something that I can change the firmware on it and that might help but idk how to do that or what I should put on it so i'm looking for suggetions. I just want to have a good connection while playing Halo =/

Easy way to solve this problem, vigorously apply a hammer to the router, buy a new one. Hard way, turn off UPnP, Update to the latest firmware from linksys, and turn on port forwarding for the XBL ports. Call up Linksys to see how to change the nat, although I don't think you can change it on this model. Seriously though, buy a new router and rid yourself of the trouble.

usually the nat can't be changed (it depends on the model not the firmware), but that should only affect the games you connect to, not the stability once you're connected. Fix as above (hammer also preferred)

What router would you suggest then? And is there no way to make it better byt adding a different kind of firmware? I remember reading that they made this open source i think?

I suggest you first try updating the firmware on your router. To do that download it first @ this location:

    clicky here

Just select your router version from the drop down menu. You said you had Version 8 there's more than one 8.x. To upload the firmware to your router, go to the administration tab or admin or firmware w/e I forget what it's called.

If that doesn't fix your problem do what the user above suggested and undo uPnP and start port forwarding.

Some people dislike Linksys routers cause some of them are indeed buggy. It depends on what version you have. Certain versions have more firmware updates than others. I own a WRT54G. I like my router and it's still running good.

    Goodluck

I'm a big fan of WRT150N (also Linksys), runs great for me, goes through a couple floors, no real trouble with it, little bit pricey (100$~? I think when I got it) as compared to the G routers though, does real well.
