Been out of the Laptop purchasing business for a bit and was wondering what you guys thought would be the best company to buy from in terms of quality/ability.

What I'm looking for: (No Apple, needs to be IBM compatible/no Alienware)

-Ability to run multiple RAM/CPU intensive programs at the same time without lag
-No heating/Motherboard issues (ie Alienware frying all components when it gets too hot)
-Good airflow/dust flow
-Huge liek XBOX is okay

I've become accustomed to HP, but I wasn't looking for an Alienware type computer. This is most likely a mediacenter type machine and I was going to check out HP/XPS/Falcon Northwest type machines but yeah.

Best laptop I've ever owned, and I have it toward the lower end. It gets hot to the touch but internal temps stay cool, so it's definitely doing it's job and moving the heat away from critical components.

Why exactly do you need a laptop for a media center though?

Personally, I usually find it to be...questionable...to drop several thousand bucks on a laptop when you could buy/build a kickass desktop, and a nice laptop for if/when you need portability for less money overall.


I'd probably look at XPS models, HP, Toshiba, that sort of thing. Look at the service plans and get one too. I fix a lot of laptops, and the one thing you don't want is to have one out of warranty...

I have the 5790 and it's been a good lappy (minus the hinges dying cus the screen is so heavy and the hinges are really tight). I was gonna suggest this but you beat me to it. To OP: This model is cheaper than the falcon northwest models and can get 10x more crap it in

Those laptops look badass, I like the looks and system specs. Definitely desktop replacement units, not anything portable.

Voodoo = HP. Instafail.

Never really worked with Falcon Northwest personally, but they *are* a good company. Specs on their top model look only just comparable to the sager though, but for about 3 grand more. I'd still go with the sager.

Places like voodoo, hypersonic and F-NW are just boutique resellers of laptops produced by companies like clevo, acer, etc. You can find those exact computers much cheaper elsewhere. Only real reason to buy from that kind of company is if you want their support, or a really overpriced paintjob.
