Offside: When entering an attacking zone, the puck must clear the blue line before any offensive player crosses it. This is so that teams can't have 2-3 people sitting near the net before the puck gets up the ice to get passed to. So if any offensive player is in the offensive zone before the puck crosses the blue line, its called offside.
Icing: If the puck is sent down 2 or more lines (red, blue, goal), its icing against the team that sent it unless that team goes and touches it first. This is so that after a bad scramble in front of their net, the defense can't just throw it down the ice to get it out of danger.
