Douchebag: The Pens would be smart to go for that trade. They have to rebuild anyways-- Since they won't even make the playoffs this year.
Awesome Brill: Staal won't be traded. The Penguins are too in love with what he could become. He's a young, still developing power forward. It took Ryan Malone how long until he finally developed into a reliable offensive threat. People seem to forget that Staal is only twenty years old. He's arguably the most durable player the Pens have and he's a fantastic defensive forward. If his scoring touch catches up with his defensive side he will be around for a very long time.
If I were a betting man, I would bet that by the end of his career Staal will be compared to players like Rod Brind'Amour and Jere Lehtinen. Wow, the Pens have to rebuild? Do you even watch hockey?
Douchebag: @ david w - They're 1 loss away from droping to 11th in the Conference. That puts them WAY out of the playoffs. Yes, they need to rebuild. The Pens lost their key players on the off season. Yes, they need to rebuild. Malkin clearly isn't a playoff player at this point in his career. Cindy is too distracted with trying to punch players clockweights from behind...
And yes, I watch and play ice hockey. I don't just "follow" one team. Clearly you are a Pens fan, which is fine. But watching only a single team, limits your knowledge. You were probably one of the people who thought that the Pens stood a chance at beating Detroit last season too. They didn't have it last year. If they'd have kept the true core and grit that they had and re-tooled just a little bit, the Pens would have been a powerhouse. Now their just average.
Awesome Brill: Well first off your math is way off. The Penguins are currently one point ahead of both the Sabres and Carolina. If they would lose and both teams would win, the Pens would drop to tenth. Since you're pointing out numbers did you also fail to notice there is only a seven point difference between tenth place and fourth place? I am a Pens fan, but I'm also a hockey fan in general. I watch any game that is on tv. For someone who says they watch and play hockey, you may want to follow it a bit more closely.
Wow, you're playing the clairvoyance card about the finals? Impressive. Just because I am a fan of the Penguins, doesn't mean I don't follow other teams. Before replying next you may want to stop and actually think out your posts since you're making a ton of comments based on nothing but your own assumptions. Think before you post kiddies it makes you look like less of an ass.
Awesome Brill Follow Up: I'm also interested in how exactly the Penguins would have kept their "grit" from last season considering their salary cap issues and the amount of money several players wanted. Since we're tossing out suppositions now, I suppose you were one of the people who thought that the Penguins should overpay for for Malone, Roberts, and Hall? Hossa made his own choice to get his best chance for the cup, I can't argue with that as much as I would have loved him to stay because Detroit DOES give him the best chance.
So by all means explain to me how keeping their true core together by overpaying three players would have been a wise decision. For such a hockey pundit you seem to lack the basic knowledge of the salary cap. Do you remember a few years after Tampa Bay won the cup, their salary cap woes were so bad that Lecavalier and St. Louis were pretty much ALL they had?
I like your logic though, load up for one run then potentially handicap your team for years to come. Good thinking.
Douchebag: @ david: Let me explain something to you about wins/losses since its obvious you are a jackass.
A win gives a team TWO (2) points. A loss gives a team ZERO (0) points.
Currently the Pens are in 8th place. The Pens have 70 points.
The Sabres and the Hurricanes are in the number nine and ten positions respectively with 69 points each. Now use your fingers or toes to count. Seventy take away sixty-nine equals one. Good job Davey. You can have your milk and cookie now.
The Pens are only 1 point ahead of two teams who are not currently in a playoff position.
If the Pens lose a game, and Buffalo and CAR win a game... The Pens drop in the standings. Now here comes the way off math that I have, 69 points PLUS 2 points for a win equals 71 points. Now the Pens are out of a playoff position. Moron.
Awesome Brill: Ok well explain this to me then. First off you're claiming they would be in the eleven spot. Which is wrong. Then on top of that you're claiming that they would be way out of the playoff picture, by one point. Now explain how one point is way out of the playoff picture? Feel free to take your time, I know this conversation is difficult for you.
Don't get pissy because you failed to think your post through and I deconstructed it from the start. Both of your comments in your post, were wrong. I merely pointed out that YOUR comments in YOUR post were wrong. Which they are. Plain and simple. And no amount of hurling sarcastic ineffectual rebuttals is going to make YOUR post correct. Keep moving tiger, you're out of your league here.
Feel free to try again once you've taken your foot out of your mouth.
