To add last
Rangers just got Derreck Morris from Coyotes
Best 3 team after the trade in my opinion
Calgary
Rangers
Ottawa
Rangers traded Kalinen, Dawes, and Prucha for Morris....wow
mmmm Dominik More went From Leafs to Sabres
mmmmm
A little bit, yes. Only really unhappy with giving up the first round pick, our depth on the farm isn't that tremendous. Losing Prust isn't a huge deal - Roy and Peters are equal/better fighters, and Boyd/Nystrom can play the same role and have a slightly better scoring touch.
Will definitely miss Lombardi's speed on PK situations though. =\ But Jokinen's got a lot of potential, and he played well under Keenan in Florida. I never heard about that deal with Kessel though, who was supposedly involved? o_o
I think Boston made some good moves today, a legit, albeit aged goal-scorer and a veteran defenseman for 3 players that aren't even on the active roster. I was expecting Fernandez to go, what with Thomas basically keeping Rask's seat warm until he gets tapped, and I liked Lashoff as a player, but he wasn't going to see enough ice time in Boston to really develop.
I haven't heard any specifics on who was moving on the Calgary end. The thought was that Calgary made enough moves to put them dangerously close to the cap, so they were likely to try and dump a little salary. On the Boston end, the rumor was that the Bruins would flip the draft pick that they got from Tampa in the Recchi deal and package it with Kessel to get back some defensive help. Who that defensive help would have been hasn't been disclosed, that I'm aware of. Personally, I'm glad Kessel isn't going anywhere. He's been slumping since he came back from having Mono, but man is that kid fun to watch.
The defensive help Boston got was Steve Montador in exchange for Nokelainen. There were rumors that Kessel was on the block, but I think Boston wisely decided to keep him. Recchi is a good replacement for Sturm, and will likely retire at the end of the year anyway, so no cap space issue, and Montador should help cut down Chara's ice time to a more reasonable level.
I'll be honest
I hate Thomas, Thomas is like hasek but with more luck. I do not expect Thomas to be that good next year tbh he has lot and lot of luck in his goaling tactic.
All of that is well and good, but the Kessel to Calgary rumors started up around 1:00PM or so, which was well after the Montador move was made. Kessel initially had been rumored in a deal to Anaheim for Pronger, but that fell through when the Ducks took him off the table.
@Ratatapa: I like Thomas, but I agree that he isn't likely to put up numbers like he did this year on a consistant basis. I absolutely love Tuuka Rask, though. The sooner they bring him up from Providence on a permenant basis, the better.
^ This. Thomas is an above average goalie at best. What he lacks in natural ability, he makes up for in effort and luck, but his age is certainly going to be a factor in the playoffs. I was hoping to see Fernandez go while we could still get something for him, and bring Rask up to get him some experience before the playoffs this year, but no such luck. In my opinion, trade Fernandez on draft day, let Rask do a year at the NHL level as backup for Thomas, and make a serious run at the cup next year, or possibly the year after. The Bruins are talented, but overall are a very young team with little playoff experience. Hopefully adding Recchi and Montador will help guys like Yelle and Thornton with getting the team into serious contention.
I can't believe how much the blueshirts overpaid for Morris. I don't know the contract situations but I'm assuming the majority, if not all of the players, are UFA's after this season. But God damn three NHL caliber players for an aging defensemen? Good job Glen Sather. All in all this deadline was kind of pedestrian compared to the last few years. I'm very excited to watch the Pens game tonight, hopefully Guerin makes it in time to be in uniform. If Crosby plays this could be the first time we see the Guerin-Crosby-Kunitz line in action.
I think it's best for the Pens if Crosby just sits out the rest of the year.
Not going to argue that. They play better when it's just Malkin in the lineup.
I heard rumor about Crosby's father creating drama in the penguins chamber
Ever since Oveshkin is in the show, i heard that last year Crosby's father pushed the penguins arms to get Hossa at the deadline to help crosby and they trying to do the same this year (guering)
Anyway not saying it's true but w/e
I wish the Pens would get their act together and change up the lines some. Get some big grit. Get another Gary Roberts type player.
I was watching on TV the week before the Caps vs Pens game and it just seemed to me the same situation would happen over and over. Ove gets hit and you have a gang bang of Caps players destroying whoever hit him; Crosby gets hit and its like well, whatever no big deal.
Living near DC, I get all the Caps all the time so I get to see them quite a bit on TV. It just seems to me that the team doesn't seem to care what happens to Crosby.
Completely false Rata. Troy Crosby has absolutely no interactions with the team aside from their yearly father's road trip. Where the players take their father's on a road trip to watch their sons play. He has nothing to do with contract negotiations(unlike Eric Lindros's father) and has never voiced anything(at least here) about dissatisfaction with the Penguins roster moves. I think I may have to call bullshit on that one.
No, not on you Rata. On whoever made up that bs story lol.
Well i just said what i heard so.
it's just some media bullshit maybe
at first i didnt believe it, but when seeing how much success pens got without crosby well
and they had an interview with crosby'S coach in the junior and he was saying how much Crosby's dad was in the way so
Change up the lines? Therrien, is that you?
Just messing, but I'd much rather see Kunitz - Crosby - Staal as the first line instead of Guerin on Crosby's line. Kunitz and Staal have some magical chemistry that, quite frankly, is making Staal play a lot better than he has and I don't want to fuck with that. There's no reason Staal needs to be paid what he got signed for to play on the third line. Wasn't he played at wing previously as well?
Kunitz - Crosby - Staal has the possibility of opening up some room for Crosby to do his work as well, and then that leaves Guerin - Malkin - Sykora which sounds like it'd be a pretty decent line all around. The whole reason Sykora wants to remain in Pittsburgh is to play with Malkin, and I don't really want him to not be able to do that. Streaky or not.
Kunitz - Crosby - Staal
Guerin - Malkin - Sykora
Dupuis - Talbot - Cooke (that line was on fire against Tampa)
Fedotenko - Adams - Kennedy
Godard being the odd man out, throw him in if/when necessary. If we make it to the playoffs, there probably won't be much need for an enforcer, so Godard can take less dancing lessons and more boxing lessons (nice square dance with Laraque, Eric, lol).
No Rata, don't take it personally. I tried to say in the above post that my comments are not directed at you at all. Rather directed towards whoever was the one who first reported that. Not you dood. Not at all you. I will say it's a bit different when it comes to juniors though. I would kind of expect every father to be talking to the coaches about getting their children playing time etc.
