For the NYC sports media??? Larry Brooks who does the bulk of the writing about the Rangers is critically acclaimed as a joke by every sports fan here. Using him as an example of "the media" is an embarrassment.

Im not sure who Larry Brooks is, I'm referencing all NY Sports in general. I dunno how "into" baseball or football you are, but Tom Coughlin got a lot of shit his first few years before the Super Bowl (as did Eli I believe), and Alex Rodriquez gets HAMMERED by both the media and fans.

@ Sepp - I'm a Jets and Mets fan (though I don't dislike the Giants, though I fucking loathe the Yanks) but all in all I don't pay attention to much of anything besides the Rangers. But you're basically right. It's simple, you want to play on the biggest stage there is? Fucking show up! Plain and simple. I suppose it's as good an embodiment of NYC elitism as anything else. But all in all I personally don't pay a lot, if any attention to the NYC sports media. The only team I really care about (Rangers) I form my opinion on based on what I watch, not from what I read or seems to be the popular opinion at the time.

Larry Brooks is the Rangers writer for the NY Daily News, and basically he is considered to be a joke. He writes things that are either blatantly obvious, or are already being discussed amongst the fan base. and it was once strongly rumored that he was in fact getting a lot of his material from NYR fan discussion forums, and having frequented a few I believe it. Though every now and then he shits out a decent article, John Tortorella can't stand him, makes for some funnies.

Edit: While I agree that the West has a good chance of winning the cup, there is a couple of Eastern teams that could still make it very tough and possibly win.

Yes, yes it is. People are wishing Phaneuf had been injured instead of Giordano. They need to bring a shut-down defenseman that can play with Phaneuf. Him and Aucoin are too similar to be playing in the same pairing. That, or just sit Phaneuf's ass for the rest of the season.

We're pretty well fucked in the first round either way. Our secondary scoring has dissipated, and Iginla isn't playing to his full potential (partly because he hadn't needed to be a complete monster for most of the season, but I digress).

At least Edmonton got eliminated.
