Is having too many kids irresponsible at some point?

I'm a complete atheist and I'd like 4 or 5. I grew up in a family of four children and having 2 sisters and a brother in my experience has been nothing but awesome and despite the occasional fights it was 90% pure win when growing up. Realistically though I think if all goes well we'll have 2, maybe 3. Just the cold truth of housing market and prices of everything, my parents raised a large family under completely different circumstances that I will be raising mine. I'm not adverse to large families as long as they can look after their children, it's the gits living in council houses with a dozen kids and whining in the news that they're not getting enough money from local council that wind me up.

I would say 1 maybe 2 at the most. I don't think of this as being a safe enough time to really have any kids but my wife will eventually talk me into at least one. I'm going to make sure its after I'm 30, since I actually feel like having a life before they come in and take up all my time.

I would prefer 1 boy 1 girl, but say if I have 2 girls I'd try for a third to hopefully get a boy...and then fail miserably and have a 3rd girl knowing my luck.

And I hate when people give all of their kids the same initial. My little sister has 5 kids and all of their names begin with "J". That makes it hard to get their name right, especially when you're mad at them. When one of them is acting up and I have to yell, I'm always like "HEY J-J-J-J-J-J-J.....YOU!"

Edit: But to completely answer the question as to my opinion on the matter, I think it will depend on time, resources, living arrangements, and how you have the kids (back to back, a few years in between, ten years in between, etc). So it's hard to just answer the question in general, but I personally don't see why a person would want to have more than just a few.

I'd really love to have atleast one kid, and MAYBE two, I just don't know when I want to have them. And I want a boy more than a girl, but would be really happy with either. I'm with everyone else though, as long as you can give each of your kids a happy/healthy life and enough loving attention then you can have as many as you want and can afford.

About the house, the woman happened to flick on that show about the family in that picture, and apparently they built it themselves as a family, and they own something like 15 rental properties that they make money off of, so I guess they're fairly well off.

I had always wanted 2-3 kids while I was growing up.

I just had my first child 9 days ago and frankly I don't think I want another. They are a shit ton of work to take care of, and expensive, I don't think I can do it all again. My wife feels the same way right now but we'll see when she recovers. Knowing her she'll want one more.

To answer the OP's question yes I think there is a point where too many is a bad thing. Any more than 5 and I don't see how they can get the attention they need from their parents.

Too many is ridiculous and selfish. My cousin is 27? with 6 kids by two fathers...daycare is too expensive and they just suck up the government money because they can't afford them. With an already overpopulated world, I wish they would restrict families to 2 kids. There are way too many fucking people in the world (pun intended).
