OMG the shit storm in the testers forum is sooooo funny. The amount of people who freaked over the term 'launch build' and went on tirades was awesome. I guess they have never heard of this new fangled patching business

No invite, I was hoping to get in. I was able to patch/update fine on Wednesday, only the play button is grayed out.
2 weeks come sooner!
Thats all folks! Game testing is over on Monday.
Hello testers! This weekend’s test will end on 12/4 at 11:59pm CST (12/5 at 5:59 London, 6:59 Paris/Berlin). This will also mark the end of Game Testing for Star Wars™: The Old Republic™.
Thank you all for your participation in the Game Testing Program.
Also with that survey thats going around, I recommend being completely binary with what you liked or didn't like. 1s or 10s. Makes a bolder statement imo.

Is it just me or was this then same thing people said about XIV right up until the game launched. The game is buggy as hell am still finding world holes I know i /bugged every build but the bugs are besides the point they can be fixed with patches its the game systems its launching with that worries me feels like XIV all over again. The July/August build was the best system wise(Mod system being the biggest loss) last few builds all it seems like they are doing is removing things like auction terminals on planets they where on all of them and the network thrived then 2-3 builds back they just removed them in all but 3 locations per faction and well barely anything on them now cause people rather npc things then spend the time to travel just to put things up.
We complained there needed to be more character customization when making a character what did they do? They removed a bunch of stuff of course. The much loved sync color to chest piece option so we don't have to run around looking like clowns in miss matched armor you guessed it they got rid of that too its fun running around as a trooper when every piece of armor is white+"random bright color" you get to feel like the galaxies most bad ass court jester. Biggest thing they removed was the mod system from August where nearly every piece of gear in the game was mod-able meaning you could just find a set of gear that looked nice and keep upgrading it till you found something you liked the look of better. They then scraped it and simplified it to the point only a few pieces of gear where mod-able then after huge shit storm they gave us back more mod-able gear(maybe 30-40% of what was originally mod-able) but kept the rest of the system simplified. Now as of the "Launch Build" as they them selves called this went back and removed a lot of the mod-able gear and gimped what they left mod-able so they can't be kept and upgraded by removing the hilt/armoring option where gives the item its damage/defense so once again if you wanna keep the good looking stuff or a matching set so you don't look like a clown you need to sacrifice stats.
Now as you said its an online game so if it gets XIV style launch they can fix it later but also like XIV is it may never see a healthy player base because of a rocky launch.
P.S. Almost forgot they removed AA as an in game option(not that they ever had it enabled to begin with) and am sure there is plenty of other stuff am forgetting this is just the big stuff Ive noticed first hand.
It's not even fair to compare this game to FFXIV. FFXIV was a clunky train wreck and was devoid of interesting content. At least this game has content and controls feel like an mmo should. As for the auction house, it's really hard to judge before launch as most people playing beta probably aren't going to bother taking the time to auction stuff when they know their character is just going to be deleted. With that being said though, it does feel pretty "bare bones" as far as mmos go. Other than interactive story, it seems to lack depth and basic mmo functions that should be in an mmo launching in 2011. I just hope they have a lot of this stuff ready to add quick post launch before we've played through the stories and get bored with the game.
Maybe comparing it to XIV was a bit much but Ive been playing this game for months now and with every new build its getting worse. What am playing right now is a pale imitation so to speak of what the game was when I first played it. Sure they have fixed A LOT of bugs(still more bugs in the game then I can count and not all little ones either) but they gutted or removed some of the game systems that made this game unique and fun to play and am worried its gonna bomb.
Yeah, I'm a bit worried that they're trying to cater too much to the casual crowd. It's one thing to make it accessible, but it doesn't need to be oversimplified. Instead of making them extremely easy, they could find ways to ease players into the systems and still maintain depth. I mean I know this is Bioware's first MMO, but they really are making a lot of rookie mistakes. Like for one (and the most important) not listening to the player base. Sadly, they'll find out why that's a mistake soon enough though.
Removing the moddable option sounds horrible, I definitely stole a lot of armoring / mods from some items that looked horrible and just placed them in my trusty plate robes just so I didn't look like a retard in a mismatched outfit. I really hope they re-consider and revert that change.
How do you download the entire game build? Or is it not available yet?
Anyone need a guild (Republic/PvE) for live? Have a small group of friends but only 2 of them has pre-ordered, need a 3rd so that our small guild can be auto-deployed when the game goes live. We plan on doing mostly PvE stuff + alts, let me know if anyone is interested~
That sounds horrible. I really liked that part of the game.
You can still mod items. Don't know where that came from that you couldn't but I was just doing so last night. And for whoever asked about the UI being hidable. It is and has been for a couple months at least. CTRL+U will do it and it can also be key bound to anything else you want.
It wasn't removed completely just the system was gutted and simplified to the point of almost non-existence. In the next build after the august/september build when they first gutted the system(They removed mod options from about 95% of the gear in the game) there where hundreds of posts on the forums complaining about it so they gave in and put some of it back about 30-35% of what was originally mod-able was put back. As of the last build after removeing the armoring/hilt options from artifact items you really can't even count them as a mod-able item anymore cause you can't upgrade them and keep using them without armoring/hilt mod to boost armor/damage stats they are useless not to mention that missing slot also means they are useless as normal items cause 1/3rd of there stat potential is gone. I have found a lot of instance's where prototype gear is better then artifact gear because of this.
As the game stands now where back to the same 5% of mod-able gear the game had when they first gutted the system. An besides the fact that it's going to lead 90% of the player base looking the same warring the same armor cause mod-able gear is the best(when properly upgraded) therefore killing diversity is appearance all the mod-able gear looks god awful I swear they choose the items they left mod-able based on how bad they looked.
I never got around to item modding, so I don't know anything about it (or what I'm missing from months ago). But I do know I hate how they tried to make the UI look like it was a window system but you can't do anything with it, and opening some elements force others to close (/deadhorse). That being said, I still have a lot of fun in the game (casually I guess it is). Something about blasters and sabers going off all around is great. And the story is well done. That may be all the game has going for it, but I imagine it should at least support a meager existence after the initial boom.
I know the game has problems, and it is sad to hear that they dumbed it down so much, that really stinks. I am still going to play, it was enough fun for me to get sucked into.
My question today is, is there going to be any reason to play on a PvP server besides screwing around with other faction? There is PvP mini games, and some places (Tatooine?) where there is free for all open world PvP, so what would cause you to want to play on a PvP server unless you really enjoy camping lower lvl people or something? When I was on Balmorra and Nar Shadda I never saw anybody from the Republic, I didn't go looking for them but I never saw anybody. What server type are you guys going to be rolling on?
Also, had a lot of fun playing an Imperial Agent Operative, healing spec, this final beta weekend. Got to lvl 22. Once you get a feel for your healing rotation you can really pump out the heals without running out of energy, even doing Hammer Station with 3 DPS and me as healer I didn't have any real problems. That is a really easy flashpoint so it's not a really fair test, but it was easy to heal. Digging Agent storyline, still torn at what my first guy will be at launch. I really enjoyed playing Juggernaut, but I might go with Jedi Guardian instead of Sith side, also really enjoyed Smuggler and Agent storylines and gameplay. Never tried doing any force user DPS, just tanking and healing, so I will have to try that out, but I think I will do either a smuggler or jedi tank to start. I think I will start on Republic side, I have played the first 20 lvls to death on Imp side.
Just 10-15 more days till we get to play for real!
