the fanboy is strong in this one
This is the saddest thing. I once was looking forward to this game. Not just because I am a Star Wars fanboy, but because it held a lot of promise to improve and change the gameplay we have been forced into for years with WoW. This seems to be going away. Its not because of how it looks, but how it plays. I was fortunate enough to see early gameplay in one of the initial tests, and wanted to stab myself if that was the way gameplay was going to be. Mind you this was early, but still, they do not seem to have improved it much since my personal view of the game.
That being said, the recent "demo" videos that Bioware had been showing with the walkthrough of one of their Flashpoints, looked like it was a lot more "finished" than it does now during these live demo's they have been showing at E3. It makes me wonder how much postproduction it took to make those previous videos look as decent as they did.
I completely agree, showing buggy demo videos would have done nothing for EA/Bioware's agenda, but they have shown demo videos before, and they live demo'd it bugs and all several times at this E3. Why not give the fans some gameplay video at the EA presser? Its because the actual combat and gameplay at this stage in the game, is just really poor. It has improved since last year, but it has not improved near enough to warrant a release. The game reminds me so much of FFXIV in that regard. Both games needed a major overhaul in combat an UI design to be ready, FFXIV did not get that. Will TOR get it? I am not sure, considering the already reworked UI (still horrible btw).
I want this game to be good. I so desperately want another avenue for my MMO playtime other than WoW (or god forbid, going back to XI), I just don't think this game is it, just from what I have seen of UI/Combat/Overall Gameplay thus far.
I will say that they are bringing back a few really good things, that have been sorely missed. "Group Play" for one. That was the huge draw of XI for me. Needing other people in order to survive dangerous areas. WoW used to have this, until somewhere in Wrath when they decided it was too difficult for casual players to have areas of Elites that required teamwork and determination to surpass.
The other, "single room instances". This is where other MMOs need to take note. This is where we want our future to be. It was our past after all. Single "battlefield" instances were once the standard for many of us that are still using these forums. XI was built upon them as its backbone. It allows story to progress as well as small interesting encounters to be had by many people without losing the "Social" and "scale" of the MMO to be lost. This is the ONLY thing that this game has going for it to keep me even remotely interested in the coming months. I miss the plotting and stories that were found in XI. Enough to go back to the game from time to time, just because i need something more substantial than running into Bastion of Twilight and getting a little VO "story" from Chogall.
I'm not asking for an sort of appreciation. Your ability to realize what a mindless individual you are was more than sufficient.
No no game recognizes game.
See everyone knew it was a troll video but me. But you sure trolled me.
Trolled me hard real hard.
Spoiler: show
1. You're still on this topic.
2. You quoted Welt as if he meant it.
3. You're still on this topic.
includes mini live demo of Aldera.
Sorry if this was posted already
And you fucking wonder why ToR BGers are jaded towards TERA.... for christs sake..
All of you fuckers are on notice
Anymore blatantly negative posts in this thread will earn you a 3 day vacation from the board.
What's blatantly negative? WHATEVER I SAY IS, so you better be damned sure before you make a post!
QUIT fucking trolling and only post if you like the game, and want to actually discuss it. STICK TO DISCUSSING THE GAME
Fuck it's like you're all so afraid someone will like something you don't. You don't need other people to agree with you to validate your existence (or at least I hope you don't)
Fuck this shit: no fear.
@Niwaar: I haven't been impressed with the actual gameplay from any video I've seen yet, and that's the main reason why I want to see the graphics maxed. A blaster-heavy (supposed to be ranged, but in this game blaster can = face-to-face) battle usually results in the enemy running right up to smack whoever is firing at them, which just looks terrible and clunky at the moment. I really hope they have some kind of big guns-esque revamp or "continuation" of the battle system, because as of right now, it seems that if you aren't running around with a lightsabre or knocking people back with force lightning, things break down quickly.
Exactly, my thoughts. Watching the live demo videos I was pretty much thinking the same thing. "OMG the sandperson is shooting him point blank with a rifle" or "Um, why isn't this guy dead, he just shot him point blank in the head 6 times?" Thats the biggest thing they need to figure out with combat. Ranged gameplay is fine, but I see no real melee going on. If someone was standing 6 inches from me with a blaster, I think I would kick him in the sack or clock him with the butt of my rifle before I tried to shoot him with it. Like I said, I am impressed with a bit of the overall game design. The companion system, while super clunky, is a reminder of how SE should have improved the fellowship in XI. The return of social gameplay, by needing at least 1-3 friends to complete certain quests and not just because stuff "hits harder" or "has more HP" as many elites do.
Aion had a few "elite" areas where you were encouraged to group up to survive and it actually made the game better and much more social. XI was much more social because we all needed each other to complete worthwild tasks, and I hear Tera has some group questing areas as well. Its good to see that Bioware is trying to bring back this aspect of the old MMO because it has been sorely lacking in the latest bunch, ie WoW, AoC, Warhammer and Rift. I hope other developers (ie Arenanet) take note on this and bring it back as well.
There is a lot to be excited about in terms of over arching game design to be seen in some of the videos and interviews with Bioware. Its just unfortunate that the overall look and feel of the game just comes off so poorly. I realize its going to be hard to get away from the "action bar/minimap/chat window" UI that WoW gave us, but we need something that at least looks innovative to get us to stop the game from looking like WoW or Rift or whatever other recent game.
I went ahead and made an acct to sign up for Beta. Not overly interested persay in this game, but I am very interested to see how Bioware is able to handle the MMO scene. Ive come to like the company b/c of Mass Effect and I know they can put out good products. Who is going to manage the game, updates etc? Bioware? EA? LucasArts?
Sounds like right now it will be a Bioware team that manage the game. I think it almost has to be, with the idea that they are pushing "story" over anything else in the game. The real question is, how are they going to push that continual content and what price are they going to charge for it?
Since everything is VO'd, how long will new content take to push out and at what cost? Are we going to see a flat subscription, or will we be seeing micro transaction "content packs" next to the normal content patches? I just would not quite understand how they could deal with the amount of money and time for the voice costs to push quality content in a timely fashion without either the sub fee being higher than the 12-14.99 standard or charging for "packs" such as Abyssea, or any of the DDO questline/dungeon packed content. Either way, if Bioware can pull it off and give "Rift" like small chunks of content over short periods of time, they definitely will make the game profitable, adequate gameplay or not. Hell even STO is supposedly making money, and Star War > Star Trek in terms of fanboy population.
They've said admittedly that the VO will make it take longer to push content out. Can't imagine them doing anything other than a subscription model, but officially they haven't decided on anything. Sucks about content rate but theres 8 different classes with 8 different story arcs coming at launch, so there a huge amount of content to hold us over.
On the topic of ranged classes getting smacked in the face, i think thats why Trion gave so many of their ranged dps classes pets. I'm assuming some companions can tank for you so that won't happen and be less annoying, but yeah, hate that stuff.
