Dude must have grown up hella poor to think that, since force push is what the poor kids used against the kids who actually had $10 to spend on a replica lightsaber
CP has a good point: Dragon Age games look like shit, but you don't play DA for the graphics. This game, however, doesn't look like it has the gameplay -or- the graphics right now. They should have seriously thought about putting in some lightsaber combat vids, especially after releasing the ultra-high gloss, high-quality CGI intro to wet everyone's whistle. Just seems strange to make the CGI graphics that quality, then show the "real thing" and its seriously like night and day.
Show some Jedi vs. Sith PVP combat on some volcanic planet or some shit and everyone will start giggling again. Its not like they don't have time to do it, either - they haven't even announced anything resembling a release date.
Star Wars = Jedi and Bounty Hunters. The problem with Bounty Hunters is that they're pretty generic as far as what they do and use. While Jedi are supposed to be pretty versatile. We def need to see what the Jedi can do all around and see some Jedi vs Sith here pretty soon to see what the PVP will be like between what will most likely be the most played characters.
Am I the only one expecting only "decent" gameplay with the Star Wars lore we all love? I don't think I've ever found combat for any MMO captivating and I don't ever play on holding an expectation for it. I have faith in Bioware and definitely hope it's good, but I'm not holding my breath for anything semen-worthy.
It's almost the FFXIV Alpha/Beta threads all over again. "It's gonna get fixed guys it's Alpha/Beta."
I don't know anyone who "Hates" Star Wars or would want to see a Bioware MMO fail, 98% of the negativity towards the game seems to be from people like me who saw BIOWARE + STARWARS + MMO on paper and thought FUCK YEAH. Then they see the gameplay they've been showing and it's like ZZZZzzzz.
They need to listen to the negative reviews and impressions because the people who are happy with the game as it is would have probably bought the game without seeing ANY gameplay just off the companies involved. Telling everyone how much money is being spent on this is not helping either. Neither is "We're going right at WoW, we want to take their consumers!"
It's gonna be 2012. they need to blow people away.
Imo, the artstyle and animations look horrible and dated, but then again I watch WoW gameplay videos, tried the demo and could not stand what I was looking at so what do I know? I'll mess with open beta on this but I'm underwhelmed personally.
Disclaimer: I'm Team TERA btw, watched a live stream, saw the combat and artstyle and was sold. In KOREAN. That's what this game needs to do to people. It's fucking Star Wars, the universe sells itself. Your combat needs to match that bar FFS.
TL;DR:
I get the feeling that End Game will consist of tiered raiding just like it is in WOW.
They came out with a trailer for the first tier raid Eternity Vault
Still no combat video though just more CGI.
That looked like in-game footage to me not CGI. But yeah, raiding look a lot like Uldam lol.
All i saw in that video was lightsaber lightsaber lightsaber. So everyone is gonna be rolling around in generic lightsabers. They should at least expand the lore to make different stylish sabers over them all looking the same.
Also.. friend got invited to this upcoming wave or w/e of beta testing. He played in the other tests and just doesn't care anymore to keep testing this game he doesn't enjoy at all. So he is going to let me try it. I look forward to sharing my opinion of a game that has had it's combat in development for 3 years now. I hope trying out the game will change my opinion and hopefully I will come into here and able to say positive stuff about the game
The main selling points of TOR are also it's biggest problem. Bioware has a very broad audience they need to cater to in comparison to the typical MMO. They have to cater to Star Wars fans, Bioware fans, people both new and vets to the MMO scene, KOTOR fans, and whatever else. And everybody has their own expectations of what the game should be. But I've been following the game closely ever since they've announced it, and to be honest I've never expected more than a traditional MMO built around the Star Wars IP.
For the most part, combat pretty much looks like what I always expected it to be. I mean I'm sure we'd all love something with the story of KOTOR and the gamplay of ME2 and TFU, but obviously that's not going to happen. It is what it is. And while I've been looking forward to the game for a long time, at the same time I'm not too worried about it. There's a lot of nice looking MMOs coming out in 2011/2012 so if I like it then great, if not then I'll play something else.
Yet again, i really don't understand what people expect combat wise from an RPG. You either have the basic generic tab targeting, TERA, or a combination of the 2 like in GW2. You're appealing to SW fans first and foremost so you can't have some flashy combat with stupid backflips. This is the drawback of producing a new game with existing lore. While some kids may have thought that Yoda doing acrobatics and hopping all over the place was the coolest thing ever, the true fans saw it as completely destroying what the force was all about.
I'm basing this off of never having played the game obviously, but from what i've seen of leaked footage, it's exactly what i expected. Perhaps my tune will change once i see what kind of content the game has, but the combat itself is exactly what i assumed it would be.
The 3 movies ruined the force big time as far as what they were capable of doing. But now they have to live up to those standards and people want to be able to do that as Jedi.
Yeah I mean, MMOs and RPGs in general have never really been about revolutionary or innovative gameplay. To me, they've always been about creating an immersive world that you could build up a character and play with a bunch of other people in. And I think having a bioware style, interactive story will go a long ways to helping the player feel immersed in the world. With that being said though, it doesn't really help that most of these gameplay videos we see are from people that are keyboard turners and skill clickers.
Official Tatooine developer walkthrough. Pretty good minus the over the top music they threw in, "GENERIC SANDPEOPLE KILLING NEEDS EPIC MUSIC..."
also the guy playing actually knows what hes doing.
meh. the combat looks pretty generic but still interesting, I suppose. I'll play it still, even if I quit after the free month or whatever. lulz
I dont really know what it is, but aside from the music, it just doesnt look appearling at all.
Maybe this game needs some "Eye Candy" to get people interested in the game
