SWTOR beta test weekends to begin September 2nd
There you were, thinking this upcoming weekend was going to be another one when you sat around in your underwear, trying to beat that last Challenge level in Peggle, but we're here to tell you to cancel those plans.
Starting September 2nd, Star Wars: The Old Republic will begin its beta test weekends for a select few who registered on the game's website. This news was announced earlier today at PAX Prime, including the fact that even those who didn't pre-order can have an equal chance to participate.
So get those registrations in if you still haven't, and for Obi Wan's sake, put some pants on.
its on rails, there basically 3 buttons, shoot, missiles and barrel roll. and you shoot at stuff. thats it. it might have been entertaining in atari days but i think were a bit beyond thatWhat was disappointing about it? From the videos it looked pretty much like auto flight.
Well, in all fairness though, Bioware was pretty up front with what TOR would be from the start. They said it would be a traditional style MMO with a focus on story. They said there wouldn't be a focus on space because they wanted to get the ground game right first. So I mean, for everything TOR is or isn't, it's still exactly what they said it would be. And any doubts or disappointments are because people expected something that wasn't promised to them.
I think a lot of people are just tired of the traditional MMO model and want something different but I don't think story alone is enough for most people. You can only go so far with story. Sure, you can always add more story on later, but they'll never be able to keep up with content at the pace most people will play through it. I guess they're really banking on people playing alts.
I meant the space aspect of the game being like Eve.
People expect alot of things to be standard in this game because millions upon millions of dollars have been spent developing it, if there's not alot of content then the game will fail. I sure as hell don't want Rift: Planes of Telara with a Star Wars storyline and glow bats, fuck that. If it's like WoW where there's heroic versions of each 5 person dungeon and a heroic version for each 16 person raid then this game will go very far.
Rift had heroic dungeons and outdoor raids and a 20 man raid zone
But it had a really shitty and forgettable story (I honestly don't know what it is after burning through everything Pre-1.3)
edit: Of course people bitched and the expert dungeons were nerfed so hard that you can farm with a bunch of retarded pugs
Ooh, whoosh then.
The saving grace is that it's SW and not high fantasy. Can this game separate itself from the rest when not in story/voiceover mode?
Beta invites for this weekend have been going out. Check email, spam folder and www.swtor.com/tester to see if you're in.
^thanks for that link. Apparently when I signed up months ago, I only made an account. The part that allows me to be available to be chosen as a tester wasn't filled out. Doh ><
Out of my paranoia, I tried to hit update info > log in and it wasn't allowing me to login.
Sent in a support ticket in case I'm going crazy / increase my chance to get chosen
edit: Looks like its mainly EU invites went out today
Don't leave me hanging on that invite now.Account Created Date: 09/30/09
I guess you have a point when you say I was expecting shit I was never promised. But come on. It's fucking Star Wars. Space combat is an integral part of the goddamn universe. When you make absolutely no effort to even make it enjoyable there is something wrong.
I keep throwing back to SWG because if a shitty game like that can do Space Combat right, then by god TOR should be able to. I'm sorry but Bioware dropped the ball big time IMO with this game. The story is "ok" and may keep some people playing for a while but in all honesty nothing about this game is outstanding. And when you're coming up against games like TERA and GW2, you better make sure at least one aspect of your game is fucking fantastic, I feel they failed to do this.
