How is everyone getting beta invites? I signed up like a year + ago and nothing
From what i remember from the Cata beta that was the feeling i had when the rumored release date was 2-3 months away, and it ended up being true and bumped back a month. You'd be surprised how quickly they can get bugs handled and stuff, or how some bugs can just be completely ignored and get put into retail >.>
IDK, we'll see what this new build holds in store, and if it breaks the game on day 1 then theres no chance for a 2011 release.
The whole point of the beta weekend was to stress test some of those systems. If they didn't perform how they should have, of course they should rework them before continuing on with the beta weekends.
Comparing SWTOR to FFXIV is laughable. FFXIV was extremely unfinished and with several proven bad systems pulled over from FFXI that players told them again and again in beta had to be changed or the game would fail.
At worst SWTOR is a WoW clone in space with an unfinished end game (aka every MMO ever released, including WoW). Will that keep subs? No idea, probably not if they fail to get the content in before people start hitting 50, assuming they release with it still unfinished.
Cata beta was awesomely buggy, though they managed to fix most of them before it released. WoW/Cata is failing because of key dumb decisions they made with the expansion, not the expansion itself - like redoing talent system again and making rewards the same for 10/20 man raids, killing big guilds and community in general.
The worst thing about TOR is that it's stale dressed up as Star Wars. But if it's badly-optimized stale or plain badly-done stale, then people should be concerned.
If it's just boring, I doubt it won't be a success still. The Star Wars mythology will be enough for people to ignore that.
Rift just wasn't interesting at all. Story made no sense and no one had a connection with the game. Plus it's way too easy to get to max level, it just devalues what you feel your character is worth and makes it easy to quit/move on. The turnover rate in the raiding guilds in Rift is ridiculous.
Starwars/Bioware name will bring them huge numbers initially, even some people who don't normally play MMOs but have played other Bioware games. Just like the majority of early WoW players were not MMO players but were tried it out because of the Blizzard name and the Warcraft IP. After that it's up to Bioware to keep them playing.
I think the game will be successful. It might not be blockbuster successful, but I'm confident it will do well enough to not be begging ppl to come back, ala Rift, 6 months after retail.
Combat is stiff, but at least a Force class is amusing (haven't tried the others). I don't think combat is horrible, but nothing is new or inventing the wheel. Your not gonna kill leveling/trash mobs in 5 seconds like WoW, that's for sure. I believe the story is strong enough to get people into the game. Instances are fun at first w/ the heavy RP elements... but anybody who has done RP heavy WoW instances will know how fast they get tiresome and all you want to do is for there to be an option to skip it entirely. Flashpoint leveling up will have its place, but I don't know of any benefit to leveling up the skill outside of E-penis/fun. But even then, your still gonna loath a RP heavy instance after you have done it a few times and your only gonna be pressing [enter] over and over again to skip em as fast as possible. But then, since it's a group flashpoint, if one person decides to afk during the conversations or listen to it all.. your fucked and have to wait for them anyways.
I haven't tried to pvp to comment on any of it.
Environments are huge and I like the scope, but the map UI is sorta terrible so its a pita to find anything. You are in a big town and want to find a bank? Well.. you can turn on the indicator but it only shows up if its on that specific map, which is shitty since all towns have multiple upon multiple maps. And you can only show one legend icon at a time.. Why can't you show multiple? No joke, I got to the main sith town outside of the noob island and spent 30 minutes running around looking for my Bank and profession trainers. I never found them. Doesn't help that there is only one of said ppl in each main town, and it's usually in bfe of the zone and it sucks before you get a mount.
My major concern is what happens when the story ends and your in end game? I don't enjoy HM stuff, I like new and fresh content.. not recycled stuff that's just made harder. Instance grinding doesn't necessarily bother me. But, unless the game does something different then WoW, and as much as I can't wait to find a new mmo to replace WoW, I don't think I will actually leave WoW and my years and years of progress / achievements unless a game gives me something different.
I just can't see myself wasting any more time in WoW when it's clear Blizzard has abandoned support of it to their C team developers at this point. They were hoping people wouldn't figure it out until Titan/D3 were ready to release but 6 month patch cycles and Cataclysm made it all too obvious.
Bioware will introduce a Dragon's Aery approach to endgame
Ridill Lightsabers for everybody!
They're 2 to 3 times better though.
You guys think release date announcement of this game will be on 9/16? To coincide with the release of the Blurays?
I heard they added a Jar Jar Binks character in a new hope. Fuck George Lucas
I kinda understand why he does it though. Younger fans prefer the newer trilogy to the old one because of the CG and fancy shit. I want to slap the shit out of my younger cousins that tell me their favorite is "the second one."
First time they told me, "the second one." I responded, "Oh yeah, I love Empire."
They were talking about Episode 2. FML.
No. What you understand is that George Lucas sold out his own franchise for this fucking shit:

If you had something in your possession that you could bring out every few years and people would throw money at you, you would do the same thing.
All things considered however, fuck George Lucas and every new release of Star Wars.
Going to sell different Gary Coleman sigs to fund my SWTOR subscription fee
Natalie Portman's "anakin... you're breaking my heart, you're going down a path i can't follow :'''''''''''''''''''[" is the highlight of either saga handsdown
