asking for the impossible here. The baseless bashing is so retardedly rampant I don't even bother reading into it anymore, i'll let my own opinions be the deciding factor, not somebody else's who very well may have entirely different tastes, or even just have hated SWTOR from day 1 and won't even bother going in with an open mind because its already made up.
Oh no i totally know this game isn't any too special, thats been made very clear to me. I was just talking about the attitude thats pretty much everywhere of 1 sentence arguments of "game sucks" or "worst game ever" type of bullshit thats better off not even paying any attention to.
oh ok. I thought you were generally talking about negativity towards the game when a good amount of ppl have given actual feedback as to why and explains such (I know I have).
here is the short version:
• It is more or less like WoW w/the main difference being that it is extremely heavily story focused. The story is a good thing, but it gets to the point where a good deal of stuff doesn't need to have such a story focus... I mean do you really want to listen to 5-10 minutes of dialogue for a regular quest when it ends with you killing 10 of w/e mob or gathering 20 things.
• Some story elements are very strong and overall its a plus.
• Flashpoints are fun at first, but doing group flashpoint instances over and over again for grinding dungeons just makes em take longer. Have you done a WoW RP instance? How long did it take for you to wish you could skip all that RP and finish said instances 10 minutes faster. Don't get me wrong, its a blast the first few times you do an instance... but then you just press enter over and over again to skip everything yet still have to afk for 5 minutes because of that one person who wants to listen to it all. And trust me, there is a LOT of RP in every instance.
• While awesome deflecting stuff w/ a lightsaber, combat is still rather clunky and stiff.
• While its awesome to have giant landscapes that remind you of XI awesomeness, map UI is terrible and makes it hard to find anything in cities. Literally, you get a quest to talk to somebody in a city, then spend the next 15 minutes running across the city to talk to the next npc... then going outside of the city to kill 10 mobs... to only need to run, once back in the city, another 15 minutes to talk to the npc to turn it in.
• The best way to put things into perspective is that it overall has the flow of an offline Bioware RPG. In DA/MA/ect... spending 30 minutes to 2 hours running around a town to talk to ppl is fine. But in a mmo it feels out of place. But that's what happens in the game... you often spend more time talking to ppl and traveling then killing mobs (least once you get out of the noob island).
• While alts seem like it would be perfect for all the different stories. Outside of the noob island, 90% of the progression is the same outside of the main mission quests. So you will be wanting to skip 90% of the conversations.
• the game does a good job of immersion because of all the story elements. But repeating all that stuff or grinding instances gets really boring. It's just not very different then what is already out there outside of the story focus and the Star Wars universe. It's fun to level in since you can basically treat it as any offline Bioware RPG, but at the end of the day your gonna be left w/ the typical Raid/instance/BG PvP/World PvP area grind. In that respect it doesn't try to differ from the already very generic mold of stuff.
there is more but that should give you an idea
Oh.. oh... i forgot a big one. All the avatars you create all look like humans. Face and body are all the same. Only difference is you get: bald human w/ spikes on head, human w/ 2 tentacles coming from their head, green human w/ flat looking scales, human w/ a piece of machine on their head so they can be called a cyborg, ect... Everything uses the same body/face/build and they all look like humans
While I guess not being able to play as some wierd alien like a Hutt or Duros is a valid complaint, it's far more realistic for Bioware to focus on one sort of body frame. Otherwise it's a huge hassle later on when they want to add more armor/etc if they have to make a version of it for every different type of race.
Humanoids only lets them focus their art team on other things.
They don't even do this for their single player games.
So you mean Bioware can be lazy where every other mmo w/ multiple races isn't? And your argument is it allows em to spend more time on other stuff... really? You really gotta find better ways to defend the game.
When every race in a good looks the exact same outside the little "addons" each race gets.. thats just plain lazy and boring. It's boring that every race looks like a human and no race has a unique figure
I find that argument shitty because (aside from the facts you stated)... well where the fuck were they spending their time? Story is passable but not amazing like they're toting it to be and VA is for the most part sub-par. And they sure as hell didn't spend any of that time working on the core aspects of the game because they copied that shit straight from WoW. So where did that time go? It went nowhere because they are a bunch of lazy fucks that made a sub-par game that will only succeed because it's Bioware and it's Star Wars. If you're going to skimp on everything but the story and VA, you better DAMN make sure those are fucking amazing. And they aren't. Game is barely passable as an MMO and an embarrassment to the industry.
I think you quoted the wrong person since I agree w/ you
Deleted the lastest build and will never look back, great console releases coming soon and I'm having a hell of a lot more fun playing Aion while waiting for Guild Wars 2. Believe it. Already gave my beta account away.
