The problem is, the model has been done. People are bored of the model. The MMO schema has to change. SW is just bringing more of the old.

    1. People have been tired of the current endgame content for years now and what TOR is doing is by no means new.

    2. Because they've been trying to do something different by being the same and it's obviously not working. The current way of endgame has been stale and boring for some time now, making more of the same shit is not going to fix this problem, different difficulty settings or not.

    3. what is this i don't even...

    4. What is your obsession with 5 person dungeons? It doesn't matter how many people can participate because it's the same fucking event over and over and over.

If you looked at the video of the first boss in their current end game dungeon it was a basic WoW looking raid.

    1) Kill off adds
    2) Kill of stationary targets that do lots of damage
    3) Engage boss
    4) Do gimmicky shit like get behind a wall to avoid massive aoe damage
    5) heal heal heal dps dps dps
    6) Dance around poison.
    7) Boss dies

Indeed, people are tired of the standard WoW endgame but it is the only endgame. Most want something better but there isn't something better that will come along anytime soon so we have to be satisfied with what is available. I enjoy running 5 person dungeons, it's one of the funnest things you can do when you're not raiding and if i'm not doing either then i'm not playing the game unless i'm leveling alts or something. I don't want to be doing the same 5 person dungeons a year down the road, i want new dungeons that offer new challenges as time goes by. With there being a more difficult version of these then i know that i will be satisfied because they will cater to the hardcore while the easier version will cater to the casual. By making 2 versions of everything then the developers can accomodate both hardcore and casual players without making compromises.

Except hard modes are just the same thing. Except you do them at cap level. And THAT becomes casual mode. Raids are the same as wow. Some form of a gimmick to the fight. People are tired of WoW. SW WILL bring in a ton of people. But it won't have staying power for the mmo people that are currently tired of WoW and the meta that it currently brings. THAT is the biggest issue. SW is WoW with a SW skin. Through and through.

In reply to bolded part: Endgame for most MMO players is 60%+ of the game. So saying it's "just endgame" is just stupid. There IS better shit coming and so Bioware has absolutely no excuse for this. The better stuff being Guild Wars 2 and TERA (inb4 haters, game is also taking strides in the right direction). Guild Wars 2 alone should have them pissing their pants with how bad it's going to make their game look by comparison. I almost feel sorry for Bioware because this was inevitably EA's doing, or at least had some part in it. The game is an embarrassment to an already stale genre and with games boasting to breathe fresh air back into the MMO scene coming soon there is absolutely no excuse or reason this game should exist the way that it is.

I fail to see why you're defending the game when you say you're neither a Bioware nor SW fan and when you strip away those two things you have mediocre game, even when compared to WoW. It's just sad.

I remember when everyone was all about ffxiv, saying how great it was going to be...look at it now. I am not saying tera or gw2 will be the same, i am just saying how everyone has a hardon for it and yet it might leave you feeling flat.

Agito, you really should stop cause you are contradicting yourself left and right. Swtor is a basic reskin of wow, playstyle, endgame & pvp, however it is fresh for those that want an enviroment change, will it last wont it are questions time will only tell. I can hope the devs will listen to the community and add some much need things down the line.

And the "space flight" is on rails from what I've been told. Which sucks.

I've ridden a kodo and shot at things. So, that's been done.

I haven't tried space contact myself, but I was really surprised when I read that it was an on-rails simulation. That seems so... so... lackluster. Don't know what they were thinking.

At minimum it should have been star fox-ish. But even then.

The difference is, the gameplay in XIV was absolutely atrocious and everyone could tell after 5min what we were getting was not an improvement. Everyone that got their hands on GW2 at the game conventions could do nothing but rave about the gameplay. Unfortunately, TOR had similar praises at first until people got into beta and got extended playtime with it. Time will tell.

Nothing says they can't upgrade the Space combat in an expansion, sounds more like it was shoehorned in as a placeholder as something to do with your ship besides using it as a house.

Not to mention that SE was severely rushed and almost the entire game was unfinished. No endgame, no auction house, no mail, etc.

Not so much a problem of bad gameplay as non existent gameplay. Anyone who played beta and still bought the game only did so because they thought SE would fix it quickly like they did the first year of FF11 - well they didn't. Instead that whole development studio had to commit career seppuku.

This sums it up perfectly. People were excited for XIV and loved the graphics, but anybody who played the game for more then a few hours knew the combat and the UI was terrible. But people praised it to a degree because, when filtered through fanboy glasses, I can honestly say most people thought the clunky aspects would be gone by retail. It wasn't until close and closer to release, and seeing next to no improvements, that people started to be less optimistic. Though most still bought it in secret hopes that SE was hiding a secret retail version that would be awesome.

Hard to say that XIV didn't make some ppl bitter towards mmo judgment. Yes, mmo's can and do get better over time. But most ppl on this board who were so excited for XIV, to only be majorly let down and not play retail for even a few weeks, aren't going to look at beta's in the same light. So while some can get better, there is a realization that what you see in beta isn't gonna be drastically overhauled for retail

But if its that terrible for retail release then why include it at all over holding it back to be released a few months later? All it will do is get ridiculed, lambasted, and will hurt review scores and impressions. No reason it has to be in retail release if its terrible and its a much better idea to hold it back until it's ready. makes no sense to release a terrible gameplay mechanic when it's not ready and will only look bad upon the game

I mean it serves a purpose right now yeah? Ship upgrades or something? If you have that part of space combat done then why not put it in - better than having zero space combat at all in a Star Wars game at release, which would be even worse.

I mean yeah you and I think it would of been a good idea for them to hold it back until it's finished but the majority of MMO players don't think that way, they have no patience at all.

FFXIV was so hyped because people thought it would be an upgrade to FFXI. Except it was a downgrade it pretty much every area aside from graphics. While I'm personally pretty bored with the current "WoW model", I don't know if I agree that it's a dead model. I mean, yeah for MMO veterans I can see it being incredibly stale. But SWTOR will be pulling in tons of people that have never played MMOs before. Star Wars, KotoR, Bioware, and whatever other fans will be playing this, a lot of which have probably never played MMOs before. This type of combat and the game mechanics are incredibly easy to get a handle on.

Now, I'm not necessarily saying I agree with the direction they took with the game. Personally, I'm a bit disappointed in it after seeing what GW2 is bringing to the table. But I do think even with the game using a burnt out model, it has potential to do well because there are a lot of non-mmo players that will be picking it up and we know how addictive your first MMO can be. And there are also some people that are still not tired of that model as well.

That's like saying it's "ok" to implement classes that have only have 1/3 talent trees for launch and where each class only has 1 ability available to them (that gets more powerful each level). But it's ok because it's only a stepping stone a few months after retail release everything class related will be available and fully balanced. But it's ok to release the game in this state to allow ppl to begin character progression. I mean, why not put it in when part of regular combat is already done and its better then not being able to do anything at all?

Yes, that is an extreme situation. But releasing space combat unfinished is the same thing. Why release it unfinished when it's only gonna be ridiculed and lower review scores, ect... instead of holding it back until it's a fully fleshed out system?

Disagree, I think waiting to release something until it's on a higher level than what it currently is would be much better. Making it more free flying and not on rails. I know it's tough to do so many things but they have spent well over $100,000,000 on this MMO.

no they haven't. That was all rumors and other company's bashing Bioware. I believe the game has actually cost them somewhere between 30-40m+. But i agree w/everything else
