Winter is coming
Winter is coming
The D3 trailer was good, but personally I don't think it even compares to any of the 3 TOR trailers.
Force pushing off of cliffs ftw (around 36secs in)......
That white lightsaber is badass
That's good that everything's not just handed to you though. At least there's stuff to work for in the game.
At 15:54, what is up with this sith warrior dual wielding dagger blades?
I am confused. I have heard people praise the graphics and animation of SWTOR, and yet, these graphics just look plain Jane and the animations look choppy and uninspired. Character movement looks especially bad.
Is this just a beta, or a bad computer, or something? Could one of the SW fans give me an idea of what it really looks like?
Honestly, I wish they had gone with more of the KotOR art style as opposed to the later Lucas art style. The differences may be small, but it has a large impact on how you perceive the art in the game.
I don't know if anyone here specifically said the graphics were good, but I had heard that was a major selling point of the game. I take it that you mean that this is what we are going to get when it comes to graphics?
If that is the case, how can they make a game that appears to be graphically behind the current state of it's main competition, or even similar games (e.g. Rift)?
It's weird that you say you heard stuff like that, because for a long time graphics were one of the worst things afaik, and while they've become better they're still not much to talk about.
Well, no Bioware game is graphically anything great... but they have some other redeeming factors to stand out.
This game, though...
I follow some WoW vs. SWTOR threads on some other forums. There are three main strains of argument.
1. Graphically superior - This I do not see at all.
2. Better storyline - Sure, the first time through, maybe for a couple of different classes. Then what?
3. Voiced dialogue - Listening is easier than reading? Honestly, how long is this going to last after launch?
There is never a discussion of gameplay; how the classes feel when playing them, non-leveling content, etc. Wouldn't this be the most important thing for a game that is trying to take on WoW?
I don't think that prettier graphics settings is going to overcome choppy character animations and vague looking character control and interaction. AA can't really fix that.
Storyline is just how you approach it. Some do quests in a zone. Some do quests based on classes. In the end, the story has to be good, which I don't doubt, but I don't really see that as a unique selling point over other games. To me, this is just one of those "it's a new therefore it's great" things. That will die quickly after playing to max level. Maybe the game will cause people to have more alts, but I don't see that as a great selling point again.
Voiced dialogue is one of those things that seems way more awesome in theory than in practice. What about when you are on vent? Listening to music? Watching TV? Again, voiced dialogue will be awesome in the beginning then people are going to want to have ways to turn it off within weeks. And as you said, I am guessing there will be a point that Bioware is going to have to decide to either skip the voice acting or delay content. That is not a good position to be in.
What end-game content is launching with the game? I am very curious about this.
Yeah you bring up concerns that I myself and I think others on these boards as well, and a lot of people in general have. Game seems to focus on story first and foremost while not offering anything else new to the genre. Whereas with a game like GW2, the dynamic event system is all about bringing players together, which is how an MMO should be imo.
Endgame will be the typical dungeon/raid grind, with some PvP thrown in on the side. I believe the game will be launching with 1 or 2 raids both 8 and 16man, with two different difficulties. And I think 2 endgame flashpoints(dungeons) well as 10(?) or so flashpoints that you can do throughout leveling, but which will also have endgame hard mode versions as well. And then I guess there's supposed to be both PvE and PvP dailies as well.
They are up to 4 raids now for launch.
Also new build came out today (30 pages of patch notes, tons of stuff people asked for changed), with 2 new flashpoints and a new PvP map on Tatooine.
