    Wireless broadband issues

Anyone playing on a wireless broadband connection?

I'm using a LaptopConnect device with AT&T on the 3G network and everything seems to work fine expect for when I try to play the game.

POL works fine and I can do everything, but when I click on "Play" and it goes into FFXI, it hangs on "Connecting to lobby server." and then gives me the the FFXI-3100 error code: Could not connect to lobby server.

Was curious if this is an issue with AT&Ts service or something else.

Just like everything else computer related - restarting fixed it.

    Go figure.

    Ignore!

Just an FYI to people who are looking at playing this over wireless broadband.

I got both AT&T and Verizon wireless cards to test since you're allowed to do a month evaluation without paying any contract cancelation. Verizon is by far better than AT&T.

The problem I mentioned in the first post wasn't fixed with restarting...sometimes I couldn't log into the lobby and whenever I could, any zone with high population (WG, Jeuno, etc) would be an instant DC without letting you log back on. Also the search function does not work with AT&T.

AT&T speeds while downloading were actually faster, but the latency is horrible for gaming (and probably the main reason why I'd get DC'd). It seems AT&T routes its traffic through some type of server that can reduce quality on pictures and stuff to speed up your connection, but whatever this server does severly screws with the game's performance.

No problems at all with Verizon and latency is fine (can even do stunning at Cerb and shit without worrying).

Both were tested at max signal strength and AT&T was tested on the 3G network and not Edge. 5-6 hours is about 20MB of data of only gameplay (no other web browsing or downloading) so the 5GB plans will work without overage risks even for a 24/hr mule.

Just an FYI to anyone else whose work blocks all internet and you're forced to play wirelessly!
