    I get 29fps in dynamis w/30+ peeps, in besieged fps rarely drops bellow 25fps buuuut i run the game in a really low res window size 800x600 with the background at 1280x1280, shadows off, mipmaps off but everything else is enabled.

    Just nabbed my new PC yesterday and tried out dynamis with it today, with settings turned up to my max (self-preference).

    The only things not on were weather effects (they are retarded and just get in the way) and I left DrawDistance at 1, because it seemed to make almost no difference in *most* places.

    Playing at 1024x768 (for readability and mutli-taskability), 2048^2 background resolution, and Dynamis Buburimu with 27 total in the zone, my FPS didn't appear to drop below 28 even once. I admit Buburimu may not be the most laggy environment, but it's certainly much worse in Dynamis than it is at the whitegate AH, where my FPS stayed maxed.

    I'm running the Q6600 intel quad core @2.4GHz, currently only 2GBs of DDR2, and I'm 99% sure I'm on Nvidia's GeForce 9800 GT (not at home currently).

    I'm on XP though, not Vista, like drwaffles.

    I was a bit worried that the 2048^2 res was gonna kill me with 30ish people and effects flying off the handle, even with the new rig, but it didn't. However, today was a low turnout, so I'm hoping to get a bit of a better picture on Tuesday with 36ish, and maybe I'll turn DrawDistance up to see where my limits are.

    with XP, and a relatively recent/new videocard, FFXI will not run poorly as long as your system doesn't suck

    vista + nvidia kills this games framerates, for whatever reason

    try it at 20+ in an outdoor zone where you're not in a pit (i.e., not bhaflau or wajoam. somewhere like riverne or sky) the default 1-5 setting is very minor; basically it's just enough that the clipping pane isn't distracting, but not enough to actually make the game look like it has a real horizon.

    is actually pretty low settings, although you seem to have found a good performance spot for your machine.

    I realized after reading this that I didn't talk about what my settings were when I described my machine; so here it is:

    1920x1200 overlay (monitor size)
    3840x2400 rendering pane (2x overlay)
    mipmap = no (is ugly in this game)
    bumpmap = yes
    weather = yes
    animations = smooth
    anisotropic = yes (although it's hard to tell... )
    shadows = high

    I think that's everything relevant to the discussion?

    just curious, how long have ati/nvidia drivers actually allowed anisotropic filtering in FF11? i remember a few years ago, enabling it via CCC or Nvidia Control Panel, it didn't do anything

    flash forward to now, you can clearly see textures off in the distance do not lose their detail with AF enabled (i run 16x)

    newer drivers are better at actually making it work with non dx9/10 games.

    basically it's always been allowed, it just didn't work well.

    Do you have any screenshots of how your game looks with those settings? I find MIP mapping at 4 looks pretty nice. I disable bump mapping though since the combination rapes my processor on my laptop (still waiting on the dang case for new PC).

    At this point I'm seriously considering "downgrading" to XP, the only reason I haven't thus far is because I'm unsure exactly what happens when you switch operating systems, and I'm scared that I'll somehow fuck it up and end up ruining my new PC. Any advice on switching from Vista to XP? I'm hoping it's a fairly simple and safe process...

    Reformat and install Windows XP with a Windows XP Disk. <_<

    Switching operating systems won't affect your hardware, unless the OS you run is a version that includes proprietary software that runs your hardware properly (laptops are a good example of this, but even that can be worked around).

    Basically just load up the Windows XP disk and start reformatting. I can't think of any reason this wouldn't work.

    You should have been afraid of installing vista instead. XP is perfectly safe and highly compatible with most applications. You wont find any trouble downgrading basically you have to reformat your PC..its a self installation process that comes with your XP cd. Just make sure to delete the partition that had Vista in it during the process and your good to go.

    Technically a PC cannot be damaged through an operating system if your talking about hardware wise but in terms of software you need to have all your installation files intact. Don't just copy folders from your Program files and back that up since its all built into the registry.

    Regarding to the topic, I use 174.74 drivers for 8800gt 512 mb and E6800 dual core. I find that I run at max fps everywhere except the Whitegate AH/ Outside Mog House which runs to like 12fps...8x AF and mipmap 0. Not sure if thats normal but I hear ppl getting 29 fps at AH / mog house that surprises me...is that even possible?

    Play ffxi on 2 alienware laptops and really dont lag unles in DA, play on dial up 25% of time and cable 75% with no noticable diff. Alienwares are nice for playing it although they have so many problems with shit tech support
