Gamespot's review is laughable. I like how their main beefs are that the areas are "maze-like" and "lengthy" and that you have to stand in front of a sunflower at one point waiting for the wind to blow the correct way to pass.

OMG stop the presses, the areas in this RPG are not just long tunnels with only one way to go! Their issues with the battle system seem a little bit of a stretch as well, but I know that all reviewers hate RPGs that don't try something completely different or "action oriented" with the battle system. For some reason an action oriented battle system is more preferred for most reviewers. I always ignore reviews for the most part anyway, I'm probably going to like this game so I'm picking it up on my way home tonight.

I use Gamespot as a barometer as well because I can't afford to blindly spend $60 on a game. I've also looked at other sites that have user reviews and so far the game isn't getting much more than a 7.5 or so. It still may be a good but the general consensus is that there isn't much of a challenge.

I use Gamespot as a barometer as well because I can't afford to blindly spend $60 on a game. I've also looked at other sites that have user reviews and so far the game isn't getting much more than a 7.5 or so. It still may be a good but the general consensus is that there isn't much of a challenge.

Seeing as half the game (the online portion) is basically unavailable to factor into the review, I wouldn't put too much stock in the current reviews honestly. There's a reason why so many people are waiting to review the game.

The game had flaws coming in and we all knew them, so waiting for some review company to give the game the perfect 10 so you can rush off and buy it is foolish. It, like so many other niche games, are enjoyable to those who like the genre, but generally not so much to the mainstream. You probably get out what you put into it.

I love the Armored Core series, but they never get over a 7.5 for any reviewer. Are they perfect? Of course not, but they are fast, furious, and a shitload of fun, especially when tag-teaming or going online.

Will I read a review when a new one comes out? Yeah, but it's not going to stop my purchase. I'll have spent the months leading up to its release checking out forums with -real- players and watching -real- footage of the game on sites long before waiting for some review from IGN or Gamespot.

They are a barometer for the mainstream; they aren't fans of any genre other than the mainstream popular one. If any game is hyped enough before launch, it will get a 9-10. Just look at GTA4, a game that is in no way better than San Andreas, but scored higher due to extreme hype.
