    DVD-R Drive problem

    Ok here is the problem.

Have a DVD-R drive (IDE) that worked until last night. I tried to put in a slave DVD-R drive (same company as the original .. serial for the original is ND-3550A and the slave is ND-3520A .. believe they are NEC) .. hooked them up .. set the jumpers on the top to Master ... bottom to slave ... booted up and got nothing out of either. I have since then tried putting both in master and by themselves and got nothing. What could be the problem? I did put in a extra fan at the same time .. but doubt that could be the problem.

Oh and in case it helps .. the HD is SATA and not on the same cable as the 2 DVD drives.

Set the jumpers to cable select (CS).. master and slave configurations are outdated and aren't used anymore really.

I'll try that ... and also invest in a SATA drive so this wont happen again. I understand they are easier to set

SATA don't have settings, it works different.

Have you double checked to make sure the cable wasn't pulled off the motherboard slightly?

yeah that's what I meant by SATA being easier to set :D. Uh well I just opened it and set the jumpers to CS and checked the IDE cable and still not working. Anything else I could check possibly?

A different cable? The drives are powering on right? Just not reading discs?

Yeah I tried a different cable. Nothing from them .. no door/tray action .. no lights .. doesn't even show up in bios (would a IDE one show up?) or under the device manager

If it's an IDE problem, you should still get the tray to work and such. Connection from the PSU good too?

So I hooked up a SATA DVD drive and a IDE one and both worked fine .... I have no clue as to why the 2 IDE wouldn't work before ... but they work now so meh :\
