My T-Mobile contract was up this November, so I went ahead and upgraded to the G1 for the $179 deal and renewed my contract for two years.

I have an iPod Touch with almost constant wifi, which is why I never thought to go for the iPhone. I always have great service from T-Mobile in the PNW. (Seattle and Portland)

I can say right now, that the iPod is more intuitive and has more applications. However, G1 is extremely flexible and I am sure that applications will start to flood in. It isn't as intuitive as the iPhone/Touch, but not by much. The G1 is really easy to use and I like it a lot.

The best part for me is that it uses micro SD cards. So I can upgrade it to 16 gigs without buying a new phone, and when the 32 GIG micro card comes I can upgrade to that as well without upgrading my phone. Plus, I can have multiple cards and switch them out at will.

Overall, I don't regret this purchase. In addition to having the iPod Touch with 24/7 wifi, I have the best of both worlds.

I just installed Skype on the G1. Free international calls, yay!

Just got my G1 late last night after work and so far I love it. Some really awesome programs out there to play with, the barcode scanner programs are fun to play with. So far my email's have worked well, waiting still for an exchange program to get released. The touch screen works very well, cant really tell the difference from my iTouch. So far im very happy.

How is the browser? Especially since you had an ipod touch, if you can compare the two.

My friend just got a G1 and it totally smashes my LG Vu (who would have guessed). The browsing is just fantastic.

stopped by a t-mobile store downtown to check this out last night.

the store i went to had several to play with, and i like it in general. not as slick on the touch screen as a iphone (i loved the woop! zoom thingy on those) but it's still very nice. for those of you who keep your phones in your pocket like me (instead of those idiots who wear it in a friggin holster) the touchscreen locks quickly, and it won't unlock while it's in your pocket... unless you were doing some really weird shit.

pricing is $179 w/2 yr agreement. it has NOT gone up since release, nor will it they told me. cost to replace with insurance is $130, retail is either $379 or $399, idr.

there is however a one-time $18 upgrade fee you will have to pay, and adding the unlimited internet is basically going to hit you for $25 per month in addition to your normal cell plan - depending a little on your current plan of course, but that's a good rule of thumb.

android could make this thing incredible, we'll see... but even at this early point it's a worthy alternative to an iphone if you're like me and absolutely REFUSE to use at&t as your cell carrier.

The browser is not bad really, the ease of zoom on itouch/phone is really nice but the zoom function and the full page view to zoom into an area options work well and can be just as good really. Granted the 3g network is not up where I am nor do I have wifi enabled where I am at so the speeds are kind of slow and i'm not sure how much faster it would load on a good network and that could make it even better.

Again i'm very happen with the phone over all i really like the messaging system, for texts etc it keeps texts from certain people togeather in an AIM type style which makes it much easier to see where the convo's were/are going. Which is great for people who are talking to alot of people in texts all the time.

Just waiting for the newer apps to come out to make this even more awesome.

There is currently a flood of apps in the market, some very good.

    android file manager
    Cab4me
    Connectbot
    eljay
    twitroid
    iskoot (skype)
    shop savvy
    shutter speed
    quickpedia
    weather channel
    tip calculator
    resturant search
    gps toggle

are pretty nice apps for me. I use some on a daily basis (connectbot, eljay, twitroid, quickpedia), and some like once a week (cab4me and tip calculator)

Ya i've been putting music on my phone then editing them into ringtones using Ringdroid, it's an awesome program. Also AddCut is really nice for making quick shortcuts to stuff like phone status etc.

I'm due for a new contract in February, so I'll try to get this for 180, if it is still that price.

So I went to a T-mobile store yesterday hoping to play with a G1... to my surprise all their units were fake units that has the shell only with a screenshot taped on to the screen
