My T-Mobile contract was up this November, so I went ahead and upgraded to the G1 for the $179 deal and renewed my contract for two years.
I have an iPod Touch with almost constant wifi, which is why I never thought to go for the iPhone. I always have great service from T-Mobile in the PNW. (Seattle and Portland)
I can say right now, that the iPod is more intuitive and has more applications. However, G1 is extremely flexible and I am sure that applications will start to flood in. It isn't as intuitive as the iPhone/Touch, but not by much. The G1 is really easy to use and I like it a lot.
The best part for me is that it uses micro SD cards. So I can upgrade it to 16 gigs without buying a new phone, and when the 32 GIG micro card comes I can upgrade to that as well without upgrading my phone. Plus, I can have multiple cards and switch them out at will.
Overall, I don't regret this purchase. In addition to having the iPod Touch with 24/7 wifi, I have the best of both worlds.
I just installed Skype on the G1. Free international calls, yay!
