Man me and some guys at work the other day thought of a great way of implementing a Pokemon MMO on Wii lol.
Realtime 3D. Start off by making a trainer, then you can go offline (story mode) or play online (think PSO style). Everything offline goes with you online etc. Ok so you run around a city or whatever using nunchuck stick and then point+A on mote to talk to people/buy/sell etc.
Ok so battles. Online you can "duel" others, and offline you can fight trainers orwhen outside. Now, pokemon can either be all "up", so you can run around and dodge them, unless its like a pidget flying in the air, or a rattata in the grass and you cant see it, or just random encounters, we couldnt decide. Anyway when you get to a fight, there are different in-game battle scenes, depicted by where you were in the game at that time. For example; battles in any forest will look the same in the battle, or depending on the way the forest looks, just rehash the colours.
Battle area is just a circle, and then your pokeballs appear down the bottom. Mote-hovre over them, or simply just show whats in them, then you pick it with A and then swing the mote to throw the ball (yayyyy there's your swinging the mote around thing). Once your pokemon is out, you control its movement with nunchuck stick. Press 1 for backpack and it pauses the battle offline, now online we didnt know whether a pause or just carry on would be good and your pokemon go on autoattack. You attack by pressing dpad up/down/left/right (or again as we couldnt really find out which would be better, maybe swinging the remote left/right/up/down) which will correspond to your moves your pokemon knows, all of which you can move around to place on the direction you want.
To do moves, instead of having an actual PP usage, we thought a health bar and a regening PP bar would be better, but with the better moves costing alot more PP than the smaller ones, which would all be proportionate. That would pretty much be how the battles would pan out, obviously status ailments would be in it still.
Online though, the same thing would happen kinda like PSO where there is a "loose" story mode, nowhere near indepth as offline, and would maybe be a whole different story. you can make "Gyms" (guilds/Linkshells) with others and specialise in a certain type of pokemon. Then if you want to fight a gym, there would be a NPC to talk to where a list would appear and you could search by type, gym leader, names of trainers, etc. Now everytime someone loses to your gym (you can either participate in the fight, or let computer do it if you're not there (think pankration)) you go up a rank and then all the gyms are also ranked.
That's kinda the gist of it, obviously we are not game programmers or anything like that, it's jsut a fruity idea we came up with one day when we had like no customers for an hour or 2, and if paired with your ideas, i would fucking play that game so much lol.
...Back on topic!
I try to register, and it just holds and does nothing
Yeah that's a problem quite a few are having, Snowpoint was restarted about an hour ago so it may be your best bet. Currently I'm not even able to connect to any servers on either my desktop or laptop, so I haven't even gotten a chance to try registering or logging in. Kind of sucks, I was able to connect to the betas fine but this comes out and suddenly I'm sol, pretty frustrating.
Nice, just registered on snowpoint
User Name: Kurokikaze
I'm really liking this so far. It's pretty bad ass for something that is fan-made. Just wish moving around wasn't such a chore, seems like its lagging a lot when I walk.
What server do you guys play on?
I couldnt get on indigo plat so I went to mount ember and instantly got on. Gonna start over too.
Figured out what the problem connecting was, working on getting myself back in touch with the developers so I can make some changes and make it more accessible. Also, I believe I know what's causing the login issues which I could also fix hopefully. We'll see.
Update:
Got my code committed to the game code, after updating and applying my change all users experiencing my problem now don't and I'm able to login and it's all been optimized on two servers (keep this secret these will be the better servers), Mt. Ember and Indigo Plateau.
Characters: Magus, Maguspk
Server: Mt. Ember
Trying to register on Mt. Ember, but it's slow/hanging. Hope I can spare some of my free time that doesn't go towards WoW
Is this more accessible for people who never played pokemon games yet, or is that totally beside the point for the developers?
It's just so laggy and walking around is so slow, idk if I can get into it.
Ok, got registered on Mt. Ember. Wasn't feeling terribly creative, so I named myself Ember Grey. We should make a team or something. Anyway, look me up!
Edit: Also getting a lot of lag. Nurse Joy in the second town wouldn't talk to me, either.
Yeah, running into a few things myself, some of the people wont automatically battle me and every time i try to fight the gym leader of Violet, she's bringing lvl 80 birds out to fight :/
all gym leaders are lv 80
I never played Pokemon before so when I tried this game it was kind of overwhelming.
Really..?
im having problems connecting to any server
it keeps saying the connection timed out![]()
