Paying extra money that you don't have to is the definition of a scam.

Of course you can buy the normal versions day 1. CE's are a different story though.

Obviously because it ensures you have a copy on release day.

Where are you paying extra money though? Anything you put into a pre-order goes into the purchase price, so for most people it's just setting down $5 in advance.

I feel you on the whole idea that the need to do it anymore is totally bogus for the majority of titles, but I'm not seeing where it constitutes a scam.

D3 price at EB: 59.99, D3 pre-purchase price at EB: 69.99. Maybe it's different with digital copies, I dunno. But in retail, the mark-up is always ridiculous and there's never any need to pay it. Especially for games as huge as Diablo. No store is running out of stock. Their whole back of house will be filled with the shit for weeks.

I understood the concept of it years back when gaming wasn't the huge industry it is today. But now it's just silly.

As others have said, it typically goes toward the purchase, unless you're, well, I dunno.

To be honest, I'd bitch more about digital copies being sold for $60 whereas the physical media price incorporates the seller including their mark-up. Basically Blizz got a free $30 or more from everyone who bought through them. Were it cheaper, you can bet the retailers would take a big hit.

If you aren't going to comparison shop when you see something like that, you deserve to lose your money.

Personally I just grabbed it digitally straight from Blizzard awhile ago when I had extra spending money the day before my next paycheck. Unless you feel like grabbing a collectors edition no real reason to buy games in disc form anymore.

There's no comparison shopping in Canada son. You go to EB or you go to Walmart, and it's all the same shit. I definitely do prefer digital copies myself, but I only do it with Steam.

Fascinating. EB has a markup on pre-purchase in Canada? That's uh, well, fucking ridiculous to put it mildly. I've never seen any differences in retail and pre-purchase prices in the states, and I've been pre-ordering shit for ages just for the hell of it.

Yea in america prepurchase price is the same and what you put down goes towards the price. Never heard of any place charging more for prepurchase till now.

Same. I put $10 down on my CE and paid off the last $90 on Friday. Didn't pay extra for my pre-purchase. =/
