Diablo 2 never had anything more than cookie-cutter hell viable builds and esoteric "well I guess you could kill things that way...slowly.......very slowly...." builds that a few spergs played and made wonderful RP blogs about.

Diablo 3 as it stands has more build customization. I think I saw kripp/krippi change skills about 100 times in the 6 hours they took to do a4.

Yeah, when you have like 8 sets of gear with a million dps and etc etc you can fiddle around with a bunch of different builds.

I'd rather the cookie-cutterness be in the equipment and not the skills. At least you get to play how you want for the most part (aside from the complete crap skills).

Diablo 3 only has more build customization if you take into account the builds that can only work in multiplayer games. Multiplayer games are only worth it if you're trying to progress and aren't considering loot at all. Multiplayer is detrimental to mfing 90+% of the time. Diablo 3 has less build customization 90% of the time.

It has the ability to have plenty of customization, but it requires they fix the game first.

D2 had about a billion builds for each class and every specific build had a billion variants for that build. What crazy backwards world do you live in?

The "get enough strength to wear whatever and put the rest into vit" was after 1.10, I used to play before that and there was lots of builds you could play, not only PVM but PVP too, I remember my barbarian had like 55-100 vit, my amazon had a bunch of dex and vit and so on, it was before the BOTD, Enigma, and other bullshit runewords that broke the game, bow amazons had burizas, eagle horns and windforces, barbarians had 280%+ ED, 30-40% IAS, 2 sockets colossus blades/swords, Fury runeword

That item variety also made for build variety to adjust stats to you needs, you also had jewels and charms which could change to some degree the way you played

D3 Right now is just... next item you'll get is the same one you're wearing right now with higher stats thats it pretty much, and don't talk about skills, the game itself punishes you for changing skills, most of the "builds" are not viable because they require insane gear, which at that point I'd say everything would be viable tbh.

If you try to go 2H with a barb in Act 3+ with average gear, you'll get destroyed and that's it, that, or you kite ad infinitum which is no fun.

D3 has so much potential that will need a crapload of patches to sort out the direction and balance.
D2 is a hell of a lot more fun than current D3.

I'll play D2 until they roll out enough patches to make D3 the game it should have been. To me its about what is more fun, I don't find the current D3 fun at all. 1.03 was nothing more than a damage control patch that apparently did nothing but nerf shit further into the ground. Based on the numbers floating around it appears I.lvl 63 drops went from 20 to 8% in Act III/IV with patch 1.03.

In time they'll sort everything out but right now I rather wait putting in 100's of hours of farming to get sub 60 loot way too often in Inferno.

Eh, D2 had fixed locations, too. If getting cheesed out of the A1 Speedster achievement last night while running my Monk through nightmare is any indication, they'd be pretty rough if everything was fully randomized. I lost a couple minutes due to the exit in Cat3 being the last place I looked as well as the Khazra Den hiding from me, too. Would've been close, otherwise. Sure, could go back to Norm on a 60 and waste an hour, but wouldn't be as much of a rush.

Yeah, what happened to all of the random shit that you're supposed to see every time you play? There aren't many at all.

It's entirely limited to the easily identifiable quest "events" and whether or not dungeon doors are open. Prrrretty weak.

I say drop the achievements and make the world feel like it isn't the exact same place i've ran past 800 times

Fair enough. I've done my own share of noticing modular layouts, and yeah, the randomization ultimately seems to be "is X event here? Y/N". They've probably got some BS excuse about why it's that way. Anyway, I doubt such will be fixed in the current game, but would imagine if enough people bitch, it may make it into a lolexpansion.

I think the "random map generation" was only meant to apply to dungeons (a.k.a. anything underground, which it does). The above-ground maps are, for better or worse, probably working as intended in their completely unrandomized form.

Shame past act 2 there's almost no dungeons, and most of the ones in act 2 are cellars.

How I play Diablo 3 for last few days:

    1. Log on
    2. Click on Auction House. Browsing various popular items like Natalya's Cloak, check for cheap Crit Chance/Crit Damage Items.
    3. Check friend list
    4. Log off

How I play Diablo 3 for last few days:

    1. Log on
    2. Click on any quest in act 1 inferno
    3. Die repeatedly to the first retarded rare pack I encounter
    4. Log off with 20k less than I started with, thanks to the new repair bills

I am a horrible noob with no time to play though, so its probably mostly my fault.

Oh I forgot the part where I put my set item back on the RMAH for less and less each time that no one probably even searches for since they're inherently weaker than 2/3 level 60 rares.

I've been leveling up all the jobs. Best part of the game is 1-60 so I figure I might as well experience it with all the classes.

No kidding, the only thing I find fun in this game right now is leveling up on a class I haven't played before since every level unlocks at least something... while being Lv.60 just means getting mad at other people's fucking lucky drops.

Trying out Hardcore on a 38 Monk right now... I overleveled and it's pretty much a breeze for now. Until I got stuck in minion collision town because of my Seven-Sided Strike - Sudden Assault teleport and about 4 Arcane traps intersected on me simultaneously while Serenity was still on cooldown.

Not sure how I survived it, definitely my first legitimate hardcore scare... and I didn't find that part fun.
