I could list the glaring problems that came with the game as shipped, but it would be beating a dead horse. I recognize the game has improved, I even went back to play it for a while and the next patch does look to be making some more things better and I'll probably go back to playing it more. The state of the game now does not give a reprieve to its state when it was released after 7 years in development.
D3 almost mimicks Ultima 9 development.
Blizzard North worked on D3 which was slated to be an MMO back in 2005. 2005 graphics but the atmosphere, music is so spot on, Matt Ulman's touch to the music is sorely missed.
Ultima 9 and D3 similarities.
Both were eventually developed by a different dev team after the original creators went to other studios.
Both games heavily retconned stories which lead to horrible story telling which left massive plotholes and continuity errors.
Both games got gutted down to barebones features prior to release.
Both games were extremely lackluster compared to prior games of the series.
Both games slapped the extremely rabid cultist fanbase that followed in their faces to the point of insulting them.
Both games sold a shitload of copies based on the franchises name alone.
I understand why he stepped down, but ... D3 is not a total loss. It's been getting better and better, and while it was definitely hugely flawed at launch, it's a LOT better now. Of course it still has flaws, and probably always will ... but it's got lots of potential. I check it out every now and again just to refresh my opinion of the game.
With Jay gone, I have pretty high hopes for the first expansion (2017? lol)
We'll probably see an announcement at Blizzcon this year with release in 2015-2016.
Hoping the new acts are more grand/epic and maybe more randomized. My first playthrough on D3 was just a blast, though obviously it gets repetitive once you start leveling other classes.
I have high hopes for this game as time goes on, but a good first impression on the expansion sure as hell wouldn't hurt.
Needz teh random maps.
I'll reserve judgment on the BoA gear until I see how quickly they can be cobbled together and for how much. Main thing that's kept me away from the game is neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeever finding anything worth selling to actually upgrade my gear with. And while I could babble about my disdain for flippers, I'm sure someone here would jump in to defend them and claim it healthy for the economy, blah blah.
Recently started playing this again, currently farming keys and hopefully doing some ubers soon.
Hades#1743 if anyone still plays this and wants to team up.
I can solo farm mp5 keys, no clue on ubers.
yeah I farmed keys on mp5, got oneshotted on the bosses. fuck that shit![]()
I can solo carry ubers probably up to mp7. Not on much anymore but add me Dak#1911 and let me know when you would want to run them and I can help.
Im pretty sure I got forked cause I still had my aoe-grind-spec as WD, but Ill save the offer :3
I found there was absolutely never a reason to do the Uber bosses with less than 4 people, assuming you were trying to be efficient (more drops). We also did this just in case some stupid bad luck event happens and kills you, there are 3 people to get you up versus 2 bosses trying to kill you. The group I was running with was able to farm MP7 keys the most efficiently (MP8 and 9 were possible, but just took too long). When fighting Ubers, we took it down a notch to MP6. By the time we were burned out from all the farming, I think we could have gotten MP7 Ubers down reliably, but the (what seemed to be) exponentially increasing health with the MP levels would start getting us dangerously close to the enrage timers (yeah, the Ubers still have the enrage mechanic) and we even had a few unnecessary wipes because of it.
With that said, our rule of thumb was to fight Ubers (with 4 members) at one MP level lower than what we thought we were most efficiently farming keys at (not necessarily what we could have farmed at), and it served us well.
I know for a fact that none of us could have soloed MP level Ubers anywhere near what we did as a group. I'm willing to bet we would have had issues with even MP3 or 4 (instead of the groups usual MP6 or 7) just due to the fact that some of our characters cannot survive the Uber x2 onslaught directly, and others cannot do enough damage to get them down before they enrage. The stupid Dot that enrage puts on you just becomes too hard to overcome after a very short time unless you have insane gear, and you probably don't if you are hittng enrage, so yeah.
I'm really looking forward to playing HC as it's what I played 100% of the time in D2. Once the Reflect Damage changes are live on the regular servers, the game will feel just about right to me.
Bump.... 1.07 today. Any excite? :-/
