I don't think I could ever play HC, just seems stupid to me. Then again, this is my first time playing Diablo.
All I know is that pretty much any game I've ever played I'd be pretty unhappy if I lost a character regardless of the reason.

Diablo II Hardcore : Drop from game when shit looks nasty.
So manly.
I love all the people coming and bitching about aurik after reading only the last 3 posts in the thread.
And I forgot about Demon Hunter, but seeing so many people in here rolling that at start I'll probably stay Witch Doctor.
Definitely getting, the game has me sold---
I can't believe how many people are out there that actually think playing HC makes you a "better" player than SC. I play nothing but HC in D2 now because I've done all there is to do in D2 so why not play HC?
What could possibly be "elite" about playing slowly and carefully?
Haha you guys are all sadomasochistic; I didn't care for Hardcore really. Felt it slowed the game pace way down and made me want to put holes in my drywall.
Eh, it didn't really. There's only a few spots where you really need to take a lot of care since D2 isn't really that difficult. Most of Act 3, the outdoor parts mostly and the durance... some spots in Act 5. And if you were a melee before they nerfed it; Chaos Sanctuary. Even in SC, lets not pretend most of everyone's deaths didn't happen in those places. Those are really all you had to take a lot of care in and even then it wasn't much "slower" than normal.
The thing that REALLY made HC fun was PKing/PKers and PvP for loot.
1v1 with all gear on the line was one of my favorite things to do, pretty awesome feeling when you win... major feeling of dread when you lose but it made you want to become better at PvP.
EITHER WAY, you'd lose some to lag unless you were the luckiest son of a gun. Its never a non-factor because even if you only actually 'die' an average of once every 19mo you still come close to it more often than that... due to lag.
People act like being elitist is new, especially on BG. Most of us at one time were elitists in FFXI and it carries over, it's a way people approach things. Some people enjoy taking on the biggest challenges available to them and testing their skills. Hating on HC players is not any better than saying HC is the only way to play, just accept how you choose to play and stop trying to defend it like self-conscious man children.
P.S. HC is harder than SC, there is no argument here.
This just in: the difficulty is exactly the same in both. The stakes are higher, that's it.
You don't have to get your body anymore if you die in softcore now, huh?
Should play softcore and delete your character manually when you die, unless you died because you lagged out. It's like hardcore, except better.
I'm not sure how saying "80% of HC deaths are caused by lags" means dying every few days on HC. 80% of all HC deaths can still be caused by lag, even if you only die once every 2 years.
Personally, I'm playing both. Softcore to get used to the abilitites, game play, difficulty etc. And then Hardcore when I feel safe enough to play it.
