    I just don't get it..

After going 0/3 on BLU maat as BLU70 I decided to get SAM59->SAM66. Got SAM66 tonight and went and bought an Onikiri and got a SAM test. Fought Maat and beat him in 1 min 20 seconds with 1001/1343 HP left at the end. Can someone tell me why jobs are so unbalanced in this game, haha. SAM66 wins in 1 min with 1k hp, BLU70 dies in 10 seconds..meh either way I can now get BLU to 75 and then SAM to 75. ^_^

there was a mithra mnk in my ls that lost maat like 20 times and was so fustrated, he decided to level blm from lvl 10 just to beat Maat.

I beat Maat my 2nd attempt on my taru mnk.

    Mostly boils down to luck.

Cept for WHM, Repose him over and over till be gives up.

I downed Maat on BLM second attempt because I followed a video and expected Maat to do exactly as I saw the first time >_> ...

Did you start the fight off with frost breath? It does wonders for blu maat fight. Para procs quite a bit and it has too long of a casting time to try casting after the fight has started.

Just the way some jobs work, it's not that they're unfair but because Maat always gets your job's abilities too. And some jobs have much wider repertoire of abilities and spells to literally fuck you over with. PLD and lot of melee jobs have it relatively easy, mage jobs in general tend to be trickier just because you can never plan 100% what Maat will throw at you when he has 50-100 spells at his disposal.

BLU maat fight has a huge element of luck. I went 1/7. 3 times he opened with Radiant Breath, which pretty much ended it. A lot depends on what Raubahn decides to open with, and there's anything you can do about it. If you're having major issues with it, use the xp scroll trick. That with a Vile Elixir+1 should guarantee victory.

You can generally determine how tough a Matt fight will be by how tough it is to face said class in Ballista. Hence, BLU and RDM have some of the toughest Matt battles. Then again this is subject to experience and opinion.

I was almost that way, especially because I was buying Vile Elixirs and Vile Elixirs +1, which cost a ridiculous amount of money back then. Pretty much all of my savings was vanishing right before my eyes. For someone whose first job to 75 was MNK, and whose friends were also going for 75 for the first time, it was hard to farm for the tests and absolutely crushing to lose.

I remember, quite distinctly actually, that I was in Jeuno after a loss and terribly depressed. I left my house and went for a walk around a few blocks and tried to decide whether it was worth my time to continue playing a game that had disappointed me so. In the end, I decided I'd try again because of two things: one, if I wasn't playing FFXI I'd just play some other random game in my spare time anyway, and two, I went that far and fuck Maat for trying to stop me from going further.

And on the next fight, I won.

I can even remember what I was wearing, for the most part... Tiger Mask, Temple Cyclas, Ochiudo's Kote, Sniper's Rings, Spike Necklace, Amemet Mantle, Life/Brown Belt, Jujitsu Sitabaki, and Dune Boots. Hell yeah, those were the ghetto days.

Moral of this post? Never give up, I suppose.

I went 1/1 on RDM Maat with 0 damage taken. Of course, I borrowed HQ staves from a friend. I didn't get a single resist, and after I used Chainspell and burned my MP after Convert, I used an XP scroll and kept nuking, lol.

My friend one-shotted Maat on SMN at level 67. He didn't even go in planning to win...

Man, I lucked out on my RDM Maat.

Hit my Convert Macro too early so I wasted 1/2 my MP pool, fucker wakes up and goes Asuran > Asuran like the shit he is.

Blink/SS ate most of the first, and I only took about 100 damage from the second thanks to what was left of SS and Phalanx.

Had to sleep him and Rest for MP about 3/4 of the way in because of the Convert fuck-up. But still took him down 1/1, felt awesome, especially after all the RDM Maat horror stories I'd read.

    Fucker used Asuran 3 times.

The XP scroll trick is a good one... You're really damn lucky with not being resisted though. That will end the fight right there if you're not careful/Maat is pissed off.

BLU G5 wasn't that hard, all things considered. It was a lot like MNK G5, all you really have to do is kill him before he kills you. SCH G5 is still busting my balls, I think I need better gear...

SAM Maat is basically the easiest thing ever. I was originally leveling SAM but got tired of it, so I took it to 66 and beat Maat before selling the gear off and leveling PLD. I actually went 1/2 on it though because the first time I by horrid, horrid luck missed my first 3 WS and ran out of steam. Second time though, was super-easy.

The problem with the blu cap fight is he doesn't follow the rules of real blue magic. Most (all?) of his shit is instant cast, so it really just comes down to luck and what spells he decides to cast. If he decides to spam radiant breath and instant cast 1k needles and para doesn't proc, you pretty much just lose.

Ya each time I opened with Burst Affinity Frost Breath.

Rundown of why I lost in BLU G5:

Round 1: He opened with Radiant Breath. BOOM.
Round 2: I got him to 23% and I was in yellow HP, but then my last spell I used (Spinal Cleave) somehow did 0 damage (he didn't have stoneskin or blink) and he ended up getting off a high damage Vorpal Blade and killing me. I will NEVER use Spinal Cleave again..for anything.
Round 3: He stunned me and interupted my casting like 3 times in a row..once being with Tail Slap.

I just don't get why people that don't have a 75 job can post on an endgame forum, but that's just me I guess.

I also love how this thread turned into a personal story of how people beat Maat. So I guess I'll add mine to look cool too! I beat maat as a 67 rdm with no real threats at all, while the majority of people were still working on their first 75s. I'm so fucking cool.

You did a good job of reminding us all that this isn't the advanced forum. After all, this thread wouldn't have been complete without some baawing and grandstanding.
