It sounds like you're cake isn't completely finished, which could mean the oven is too high so you have to take the cake out too early, or too low so that they don't cook in the proper amount of time.

Do you open the door of the oven a lot while baking? That can ruin it.

There could be too much liquid/not enough cake flour in the batter, or too much butter.

Also, I need to get a rotisserie machine too. If it makes clean up easier, then it's worth it.
I'm trying to make "Pastel Tres Leches." I preheat the oven @ 300~ and bake it for 20-25~ min., per my mum's instructions. The thing is, that the outer crust is crisp but the inside is like raw or w/e. If I leave it longer then it burns the crust and the inner cooks ok, I guess. Idk, maybe I'm using too much flour, or maybe need more practice. My roasted chicken was the same, but got it really good now ;o I don't open the door a lot, just to check the temp of the cake ;x

I bought Ron's rotisserie machine for $40 @ walmart, I think it was a special or something. I gave it a try and it does the job, just set the thing and forget it. <_<

You could also have a faulty oven thermometer, or cold spots inside your oven. How old is it?

You need to figure out what the difference is between the way your mom makes it and the way you make it. Like someone else mentioned, cakes heat differently in different pans. I usually use two round 8x8's. To me it sounds like your cake just isn't done, not that it's cooked but at a bad consistency, so I don't think it's related to the ingredients anymore (I don't think it's too much butter/wet ingredients and not enough dry).

Edit: Also, if there's a high amount of sugar in your recipe, that can make cooking it really tricky because sugar browns so fast. With certain cookie recipes, I have to choose between a burned outside or undone insides unless I do weird tricks while cooking them (like covering it with aluminum foil a few minutes into cooking it and dropping the oven temperature halfway through. I have to do that with certain pies too but never had this problem with cakes).

I miss having a dishwasher so much... goddamn rented house and no room for one in the kitchen. As soon as we find a bigger place it's on top of the shopping list.

Never used one because it's faster if I just wash them myself (household of 7) and save water & energy.

I have a dishwasher and I've only used it a handful of times.
By hand is just natural for me.

the new dishwashers use less water then by washing manually (if you wait to do a full load every time and not just do 10 items) - sure you can say they use electricity as well but so does your hot water tank (or oil or propane if you want to argue that)

so by using a dishwasher you are doing more for the environment then by doing it manually

not only that washing dishes by hand fucking sucks - go go dishwasher

Wtf... is this the 50's? I'm from Cali originally (Northern) and everyone I knew used one. What the hell kinda town are you living in? 0.o

Washing by hand is retarded. Dishes do not get anywhere near sanitary in water you can plunge your hands in. Dishwashers with sanitary cycles heat that shit up to the point it's too hot to touch, and no water heater alone heats it up that hot either.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

Oh for where I live = so cal. None of my california-raised co-workers use one, and none of my friends do. My bf didn't until he met me, now he loves them. XD Oh and those tablet washer things they have now =best thing created ever.

Keeping a regular rotation of fresh scrubbing sponges, cleaning your sink weekly and washing dishes the day you use them keeps dishes plenty sanitary. I don't know who raised you to think "unless a machine is doing it, it isn't clean."

iono I have that concept too but with water. I guess I must have a bit of that ocd in me. But when I wash my dishes, I have to have the water all the way on hot which hurts my hands to heck, but in my head I have to to kill any germs. (I'm sure you can tell me it doesn't need to be that hot, but trust me I'll still do it). If I put it in a dishwasher, however, I am calmer thinking the machine can do it at the right temperature and it doesn't hurt my hands!

Why wouldn't you use a dishwasher? All you have to do is knock off the remaining chunks of food or wash off any sauce left then throw everything in the dishwasher and they come out sparkling clean. (*'-') So easy and wonderful.

I boil my dishwater and wear thick rubber gloves while cleaning, so it doesn't burn me.
