i wish i could buy a car like that. rather then the 5 shitty 10k cars i own
Fun fact: The V6 in the 2006 and up Mustangs is an overhead cam 4.0L engine, as compared to the overhead cam 4.6L that has been in the GT since 1999(or 1998?). 4.0L by 6 holes gives a cylinder bore of .667L vs 4.6L by 8 holes having a cylinder bore of .575L.
One thing I do NOT like about this motor, upon closer inspection, is the fact that there is no throttle linkage. The throttle plate is controlled by a servo through the PCM, so you cannot manipulate throttle position while under the hood.
'grats! I've always liked the new body style of Mustangs, even though I'll never buy Ford again ;x Just be careful-- first, last, and only Ford I bought turned out to be a rotten egg/absolute garbage (ie: brakes started to DIE within 3 months, and I'm far from a lead foot, or even a wreckless driver). Sold that shit, bought German, and never have looked back. Their repair shop/customer service was actually worse than the car itself, come to think of it...
I traded in my little red '99 V6 when I bought this one. Honestly, that little car gave me virtually no problems outside of routine maintenance. The car had 101K on it when I bought it in 2004 for $5K. It had 167K on it when I traded it in last week; in that time I replaced 2 sets of front brakes and one set of rear brakes, one power steering pump(which really wasn't failing, just making noise), one complete clutch assembly, and right before I traded it I replaced the y-pipe due to cat failure, and I put another throw-out bearing in it while I was there. Outside of the cat failure, all the other crap was just maintenance, a lot of which the previous owner neglected.
I have a 95 Honda Civic I drive to work with 250k miles that has never seen a mechanic other than getting the AC recharged and new CV joints at 100k and 200k miles. The car is amazing. Mustangs are my least favorite american "muscle" car. As someone has pointed out, most people who drive them are dicks. I liked the early 90's body style, but that's about it. My fav american car is probably the firebird/trans am. There's just something about T-Tops I love. I liked the IROC-Z's too.
Must be a regional thing, where I live people who drive those old Camaros and Trans Ams are generally lower-income rednecks.
And that 90s body style you are talking about is the Fox body, and we have a name for Fox body GTs around here: White Trash Ferrari
96? Yeah I couldn't remember when they went from the 5.0 pushrod motor to the SOHC 4.6.
yeah the 95 cobra that came out late in the model year was the last one to use the windsor
almost bought one of those a while back actually
I guess you can call it a white trash ferrari, although I don't know why...because it's just older and cheaper or is it a reference to style? IMO, it's the best looking Mustang they've built since the 69ish models. The new Mustangs like your's (no offense) I hate. I don't think it's inventive at all. It's really nothing personal, as I hate all the cars that strive for the older looks with new styling. I hate the new challengers and the thunderbirds when they released those a few years back. I love the newer Dodge Chargers and they did nothing to embelish the 60's muscle tradition other than color schemes.
And yeah, middle class rednecks usually completely trash the 90's IROC's and Firebirds around here. When you get the rare person to actually put a decent amount of time into one, and not just throw some strait pipes on it and call it "awesome" they are very nice cars. Maybe it's just my infatuation with T-tops.
The T-top has an awesome look. A ladyfriend of mine from high school has a red 1999 T-top Trans Am, and I adore that car.
Also, I misspoke earlier. I used the word bore where I should have said "displacement per cylinder." Not that it matters, it was just something that occurred to me to see which motor had the larger displacement per cylinder.
The 99-04's that everybody loves to hate on so much can be amazingly beautiful.
Had a friend that had a 99, straight black, v8 without the gt body package, lowered, fully dual 3 inch exhaust, best sounding and one of the best looking I've seen period.
Female friend described it best, "that car is just sex on wheels."
she must have low standards
can we turn this into a post your car thread
