I think as PLD Cure IV should be used sparingly, specially when you're elvaan like me. You can keep hate just fine if you keep casting Cure III on yourself and other people in the Alliance, mainly your mages (No one cares about the DD!)

Also, not sure if anyone suggested it but you should try to get a Ritter gorget. It's very nice gives HP and Enmity and no VIT- like Harmonia's and since you get point for even losing in Einherjar you should be able to get one fairly quickly now, lol. There's no shame in full-timing Loq. earring either, specially if you're /NIN since you're going to be casting so much and need as much fast cast as you can get. Ditch the Suppa and try to get a Hades +1 or the Hades for enmity and the can wear Ethereal if you don't have other options but I don't really see the point in using Ethereal as /NIN, lol. I'd also try to get a Bloodbead ring if you can, its a good alternative of a ring when you're tanking wyrms, don't want to take a breath for a lot of damage lol, if you don't have that I'd get a mermaid ring for enmity+ if you don't have other options.

Why do you think I do it?
Its not hard to get a HP macro so you can Cure4 yourself. Its just more entertaining getting angry Blm's shouting at you for ruining their nukes.

Having shadows doesn't mean you don't take damage.

Curing BLM's mid-convert not only increases the emnity a PLD gains, it lowers the emnity generated by the BLM's nuke...

    Win/win!

Indeed, but you have to keep in mind that in a tank PT where will always be 2 forms of refresh, so almost always you're going to have refresh and Ballad II on you and if you're in the TOA or WOG areas there are latents for Refresh and then you can macro in things like a parade gorget, ares body or w/e, so the small amount of mp you might get back isn't really that important if you want to use or don't have an ethereal earring.

Some BLMs will encourage healing them whenever you need to as a tank but some get pissy if you do then you start getting tells saying "I have sorc ring!! CURE NO THANKS!!" lol

    Ethereal Earring is helpful against:

    Dreadstorm
    Thunderstrike
    Lava Spit
    Sulfurous Breath
    Rampant Stance
    Wrath of Zeus
    Lightning Spear
    all -ga spells

The list can go on for awhile. There are simply some weapon skills that, if not avoided (ie. Dark Ixion) will give you back a good chunk of MP. It adds up and it's worth keeping around. What other earring are you gonna wear for PLD that improves its efficiency anyway?

That's pretty much my line of thought also, Merona. All of those spells/abilities can easily hit for 300+, 10+ MP return per is way too much to give up. It's not such a small amount of MP. Even in Dynamis, the constant attacks from the mobs add up to a lot of MP.

I can't seem to find the thread, but there was a arguement about Static Vs. Etherial (Sadly I use magnetic on pld, it'd gimp other jobs too much to change and isn't -that- bad compared to ethrial.. (I've only noticed it proc only a few times D: )) Dmg taken to Mp converted to hate via flash/heals vs Dmg not taken by the +2 MDB.

If I remember correctly, that thread was involving Aegis PLDs.

And I'd get a Hades +1 if I had a Magnetic...it serves no purpose 95% of the time.

What I meant was in response to PLDs that blink gear in and out every 2 seconds and die because of this. It's not that hard to stop blinking, Cure IV yourself, and resume, assuming your mages are incapable of doing that.

That being said, I blink for every action that I take, blinkmenot and healers that don't AFK for half the night are all you need.

Yea, I was gonna make a mention of BlinkMeNot as well, but it seems Fur beat me to the punch.

I've always personally considered becoming a "blinking tank", but I've never found the need to. Everything I've ever wanted to do I've been able to do without blinking. Enmity swapping, cure cheating, etc. I hold hate really without it. However, when I leveled RDM and started tanking with that, I blinked for everything because I found I could be more self-sufficient casting my own haste, refresh, stoneskin, and phalanx when I was bored. I felt more at ease being the full package. Unfortunately, I never got comfortable with RDM tank after playing PLD. I am a ton more confident on PLD because the job is like an extension of me; I know it, it knows me. I think that is part of the decision to blink or not really; comfort level with the job.

I can understand where people are coming from saying that healers should get blinkmenot and everything, but please keep in mind not everyone in this game likes to load up on plugins that are a convenience or give us an advantage over other players in some way. I have never been like that, and I don't expect my healers to become aggravated over it. They know my playstyle and I don't put any extra work onto them. That's the best relationship to have with your healers(even if PLD is really their own healer to begin with). There are other spells that will be cast on you other than Cure than you cannot cast as a PLD, so it's up to you to decide what you want to do.

Depends on what I'm doing. If I'm solo /rdm, I wear haste/attack gear - basically I just butcher my DD gear (which already has my Homam for haste) to include slightly more defensive traits (def, hp, lolvit).

I only ever really use pld/rdm for Ouryu, haven't done JoL in forever, and for Ouryu I wear enmity/hp for the ground and magic dmg down for the air (I'm too fail to have an earth resist build).

a PLD can't tank w/ just a setup, he needs to switch gear like 10 secs or so: WHMs should just install that plugin or make a macro for each tank (I was used to be 2 PLDs and 2 WHMs) like /ma "cure v" blabla and it was fine.
I've found it easy to maintain a relatively static set of gear without the need to be blinking at a constant rate. I make a number of non-visible adjustments, Valor Cape, Torques, etc. but typically only blink for things like Ni, Sentinel, shield gear if needed, etc. Never had problems with effective & efficient tanking while not completely min/maxing 100% of the time.

Not a single WHM in my LS plays on PC, and they have had 0 problems with just taking 2 seconds out to make a couple of name-specific macros. My g/f has a line with about 5 of them with the usual main tanks/main MP sponges, and if someone else happens to tank that day she takes on the daunting task of opening up the macro menu and typing in a different name, I don't know how she does it really. You don't need to never blink, you don't need to have blinkmenot, you just need healers who aren't so absurdly lazy that they can't adjust a macro to fit a specific situation.
