New RMT method of account hijacking?

Just wanted to mention, since i didn't see it posted anywhere else, and I don't know if it deserves a new topic. I received an advertisement for an rmt site. The odd thing is that I received it as a message from some mule they had made, so I assumed someone on my friends list got hacked and they were doing their normal garbage. I called GM and he knew about it beforehand saying that someone managed to send out mass messages to people without having individuals on their friends list (I'm not sure if my GM was just misinformed or if that's the actual case). The oddity is that when the message came in, the user's name was all lower-case including the first letter. I'm not sure how many other people were hit by this cuz my 2box'd account did not receive this message.

sry for no screenshots and lacking some detail i immediately log'd out after talking to GM.

well dunno about you guys, but i moved to cerberus like a week aggo, and the moment i joined the server, i got a Message(not a /tell) from some "Unnamedplayer" offering me mass discounts on RMT gil :S Like wtf?

My new LS told me that they send those to players who are in their database who bought gil. I changed my name to Wubbo when i moved so its kinda weird cuz ive always hated rmt's lol.

So yeh, i didnt bother to report it, but is it a risk for me if a GM sees them sending me offers? if so, then im reporting it.

Anyone else get those messages?

If you ever get any RMT message the first thing you should do is report it. Either to the GMs if it's in game or to the STFu if it's an actual message. There's no reason to not report it and it helps more people if you do.

The first time I got a tell like that, my first thought was "This tactic is going to die out soon lol. Nobody's going to be stupid enough to go to the site and when the hackers realize it's not working, they'll stop".

Sadly there is always going to be 1 or 2 people dumb enough to do it per mass mailing, and that's all it takes to keep it going.

I got these messages too, but the name was like, "-----------", I just hit Ignore Sender, and GMed them. But you can make the FL names anything you want, I have a few on there that are all lowercase.

Anyway I also got the messages on one char and not the other. GM'ed etc. Nothing big I guess, RMT just trying to find new ways to market themselves.

EDIT: As I was typing out my reply I actually received another message from a RMT site which is about a month or 2 after the first message i got was.

ya mandy, that was exactly what i got, same user too "thibaut", notice the user id for the sender is all lower-case. for normal messages the first letter is always capital. They found some way to send to people without actually having them on friendslist according to GM. but how they only targeted certain ppl is beyond me. Are you on Asura also? Just curious if it's isolated to one server

lol that made me laugh but seriously there is a way to do this its a /tell bot or somthing it allow's you to send people /tells and DC them and this is one of its many features you can send people messages w/o being on there friends list one thing about it is you have to pay like $600 for it =/ i wanted one to have a mule DC all the tanks from other HNMLS when fighting kings but i realized its not worth possiably getting banned or introuble with SE over so i just left it alone

I just love it when something like this comes up, and it gets dissected like a dead frog in High School Biology. It's like our poster's do Square's work for them.
