i had dhl ship a package to a wrong state. NJ looked like NM to them. called up bitched about where it was. they argued a bit and i asked them to look at the zip code. and went... oh shit.. got my package 2 days later.

they have made mistakes, but i generally prefer them over UPS and FEDEX. But it's USPS all the way.

welcome to the wonderful world of mail logistics and the unhappy peons that work there!

seriously, don't work for a company that moves mail in anyway. everyone talks about leaving where I work (royal mail) everyday (including managers, and iirc the postmaster where I am).

P.S. your mail service sucks donkey dick if they don't do collections/deliveries on holidays

i've never had a package shipped to my work not-have problems when it was DHL, and i've never had DHL shipments to my home (different city) have problems - so while at some points i want to talk shit about DHL, it could very well be your location & how they deal with the local post offices. someone may have already said this, i just skimmed the post. i've been spoiled by next-day deliveries from newegg i think.

DHL must be good at misplacing things. After reading the article, I wonder how many people came across the lost shipment and scored big (from what was salvagable).

I ship/receive hundred of thousands of packages a year through my work...both small parcell and LTL. UPS is by far, leaps and bounds, better than DHL and Fedex (easily the worst). UPS drivers are awesome and every one I've ever talked to about their job love it and make a damn good wage. They are a union shop though, that probably has something to do with it. Then again, I'm not talking to people at the distro facilities and most of the drivers have been there a long time. I've told my DHL horror story, as they've also shipped about 20 dell desktops to my work late. Better late than never though. FedEx is just fucking brutal. Their customer service is terrible, their drivers are terrible, their policies are terrible. I just can't deal with them at all. I tell them that I'll be leaving by 3:30pm and they tell me that the driver can and probably will come up until 6pm. This wouldn't be a problem as I hav plenty of other options, but one of our customers requires it. Bass Pro Shops, which again, is the worst fucking company to have any type of vendor/purchasing relationship with.

I've had lost packages with UPS and had them found or a credit issue quickly. I've stopped packages mid-transit and had them sent back with no issues. In hundreds of thousands, possibly millions, of small parcell shipped UPS, I've yet to have any kind of problem that wasn't resolved timely. That really is amazing now that I reflect on it.

Had a similar experience at work, but with UPS. Shipped a trucks computer to Jasper to get a computer chip installed because we installed a Vortec 2 motor, low and behold a week goes by and we start waiting for it (They said it'd take a week). Waited a week and a half before we called (On a monday), they said they'd look into it. Called again Tuesday, and Wednesday after not hearing from them, then finally on Thursday they realized "Oh hey we delivered it to your backdoor Tuesday because no one was there." after we told them don't deliver without signature, and we don't have a backdoor. So they ran around for another week trying to find it when they realized they shipped it to 258 xxx street instead of our address of 285 xxx street.

    UPS>DHL>FedEx

Honestly, I never had any problems with DHL... like people have mentioned, just talk to Dell and they'll take care of you.

Oh and just because it didn't arrive at their estimated date doesn't necessarily mean that it won't arrive.

Seriously (former Dell cs rep speaking)

Contact Dell *Customer Service* for how you placed the order (Home, Small Bus, etc) asap. Please have your order number and customer number ready when you call. When you call, the rep would be able to get a non-bullshit answer from DHL where the package is, and if lost- setup a credit/ reorder as you decide fit. Do NOT call technical support, as they will transfer you over to customer service.

If it doesn't arrive today, I'd call tonight.

It might take an extra day, too. At least in Iowa when a company (UPS, Fedex, DHL, etc) gives the post office a package, they give it to the processing center that handles most of the junk mail. Usually the junk mail plants are in a large city. And usually the only time a company gives the post office their package is when the customer is outside of their usual routes. It's possible it'd have to go from the junk mail plant to a main processing plant closer to where you are, and then delivered like normal from there.

I'd expect it today or tomorrow.

Edit: Oh, and the post office doesn't really scan packages. So it'll just appear with no warning.
I wasn't aware there were places in Iowa UPS didn't deliver to.... I work at a UPS hub in Davenport, Iowa, and we get so many packages going to small towns I never heard of I figured there weren't any left.

I have had horrible experiences with DHL and Fed Ex. Few months back it took Fed Ex THREE days to find my house (the numbers on my street are not in order) even though in the extra address line I always put what numbers my house is between.

I have never had a problem with UPS, and when I lived in my shitty ass apartment with no mailboxes the UPS man gave me his cell # and said if you ever have packages coming let me know and I will take care of it.

I don't know which towns we take from the companies, I work at the main post office in Des Moines. The "Bulk Mail Center" in Des Moines handles the shipments for UPS/Fed-Ex/DHL.

It's possible UPS does all their own deliveries for Iowa. Or maybe they do some of it some of the time. USPS basically offered their services to any company that ships things if they don't want to do it themselves. Charge $3-4 for a package that would cost that shipping company $6 in gas just to get out to.

We just had to go through training on it, even though my plant doesn't do it. So I know about it, and that we do indeed use it in Iowa, but not much more than that.
