So, anyone ready for a Harper Majority? Even downtown Vancouver is failing to remain Liberal/NDP.

CBC is predicting a Conservative minority again. I'd be fine with that result, since it will force the Conservatives to still be willing to make compromises.
It's not like there's a huge difference between the Liberals and Conservatives. The only major differences seem to be on the environment and arts funding.
The problem is ever since the NEP, the word "Liberal" is tantamount to "nigger" out here. The "Liberal" party won't fly out here. Which is too bad, because Rob Anders is a detestable human being. =\
Was kinda hoping the Bloc would go down. This garbage need to go away and stop wasting my taxes.
someone said the other day, Election is tomorrow -- and my thought was "what, really already?" (thinking of the upcoming U.S. one)
forgot about canada's election that I didn't exactly know had been called; I get my news from BG, doh
How many seats/whatever for a majority?
honestly I'd have to look it up, oddly enough we're unused to a minority governement, and the leading party usually has to sway some votes from one of the parties with less seats in order to get anything passed
it's something of a stalemate, and the government before the tory's, the liberals for like 3 consecutive 4 year terms, had a majority government, and got things done much easier as it was pretty hard not to pass things unless members of their own party voted against it
I'm personally surprised that the tory's have called the election themselves, when I was told there was an early election I assumed it was a vote of non-confidence or whatever, as the tory's have typically been a tough sell, popular in the more rednecky areas of the country
ah well what do I know, I avoid the news for the most part but I didn't realize things had changed this much, that the tory's would be confident in being able to get a majority (and not waste tax dollars on an unnecessary election)
Elizabeth May really shouldn't have run against Peter MacKay. As far as conservatives go, he's fairly popular.
In before "Wait, Canadia has elections? I thought they had a Queen or something."
You all should vote for Obama
I'm sure somebody wrote him in.
I would have preferred hilary, in hopes of bringing old Billy's influence back, but oh well, the man (obama) delivers a mean speech
our tory's are a watered down less AOK with racism version of republicans(why I would never vote for either, given the chance); all the same their treatment of publicly funded education and bandaid solutions of minimum wage job creation as opposed to investing in education or apprenticeship programs is why I've always detested them since day 1
there was a girl in my grade 10 class who said she liked the tory's in the midst of the education funding crisis and I thought she was joking at first, given the fact that we were sitting there in an un-airconditioned classroom, sharing textbooks from 6 years ago
Another minority gov't.
And Dion enjoys saying 'economic crisis'.
It's gonna be fun...
I was tempted to write in "Josef Stalin: Red Party" and make a checkmark, but that'd be a wasted vote. Not that it would make any difference since 1 less vote wasn't gonna knock Harper out of the win anyway.
In my riding, about 6400 / 8000 votes were for Conservatives.
Oh well, at least it made for a funny episode of "This Hour Has 22 Minutes" if nothing else. Hooray for no more Conservative ads! I was growing tired of the anti-Dion "Incwease da tahx" one.
Well fuck, looks like four more years of Steven Harper and a US-style neo-con agenda.
In my own riding and the riding directly to the north, the Liberals fielded two excellent candidates with fantastic credentials that were far above and beyond what the incumbents (Denise Savoie, NDP and Hon. Gary Lunn, Tory) have, but just couldn't get any help from the electorate.
That only 2 Liberals got elected in BC is a pretty big blow and I guess it did prove that the average British Columbia just can't get behind Stephane Dion. That makes me really sad since I was one of his earliest supporters and organizers during his leadership campaign in the province and we had high hopes that he could defeat Harper, but I guess Canadians don't want anything new or progressive.![]()
