Are there "people" that are upset about this?
I can't imagine there would be, but it does seem like a silly waste of money.
Just shows that those in charge of Obama's marketing campaign are geniuses
I thought the same thing when I saw it. He certainly knows where a great deal of his audience exists. I actually wrote a small essay about the rise of in-game advertising a year or two ago for one of my gen ed. classes so this is kind of cool to me. Its one of the few places a lot of people find ads tolerable as it adds to the realism of the games (much like the product placement revolution in movies/shows). Its pretty crazy to see that Obama's campaign even knew this was a possibility, much less that it might be more effective than a lot of other forms of advertisement.
In general, I agree. It has become a great outlet to get easy advertisements out to populations that might not catch it on television or other forms of media too often.
Though on the same note, cost wise, how many of the target audience are already decided to vote for obama or can't vote at all? Brilliant stroke of tapping target audience, but how much of that target audience is already for him?
Um yeah.. genuis ad strategy, but PLEASE STOP DON'T WE HAVE ANYTHING THAT IS SACRED ANYMORE STOP FUCKING WITH MY VIDEO GAMES!
It's bad enough we have to listen to John Madden's big fuckin' mouth every year.
Well, as was clear in the advert they showed, its not about building support. Its about getting that lazy population that is young gamers to actually go out and do it. The ad they showed was "Early voting has already begun," clearly more of a reminder of voting at all than trying to convince them he's the best candidate. Which is exactly what he needs to do, as young people who are often overwhelmingly democratic often don't vote.
And he still cites video games as a reason for people underachieving at school. w2g
The only thing that pisses me off about his in game campaign is that he is still telling us to put down the video games and get off the couch, cause we're all lazy... I guess he is going to need even the lazy gamers to win this one...
How else do you get the message to these lazy gamers? It's not a contradiction, stupids.
I was more upset about the first time I had to sit through 15 minutes of commercials before the previews even started at a movie. Electronic entertainment went "commercial" the minute some retarded company sponsored some fucking Tony Hawk game or something, littered with energy drink product placement, and the last 10 pages of an instruction manual became Jeep ads.
"And I would like to take the time to let you know this game is sponsored by EA sports, O and vote OBAMA!"
