Madden 09 got an 86% on game rankings. They usually do pretty decent with reviews.
As long as I don't see a hueg "Change" banner in Ironforge or something, I'm cool. Seriously though, keep politics away from our games.
Should have gone with GTA series.
Wait, so people are actually mad that there are ads in games?
We're not talking about an advertisement likeyou see on TV, we're just talking about a billboard with Obama on it and his taglines. It doesn't affect gameplay, it's just a new texture thrown onto the 3D model.
Personally, I think it's pure genius. It comes close to programming people though. That is if people don't notice it there and then want to vote Obama and don't know why.
I think it is a genius move by Obama, but I can also see how it can be a slippery slope. It's a great way to reach out to younger voters, but if this becomes common place for any product, God help us.
I'm not mad about in game ads, hell it's a great medium to use. What I'm mad about is Obama constantly dissing on video games and gamers, then placing billboards in them... IF you hate them soooo much, doesn't that seem a bit hypocritical?
Look up the word hypocrite. Obama is not advertising in games with signs that say "Obama - Vote for me and quit playing video games".
He's reaching out to the youth to get their vote. It'd be a whole different story if his message was a negative one. All he is doing is stating that he thinks people should spend less time playing video games. If you spend a lot of time playing, you see his ads more. If you don't, then you don't see them as much.
Either way, you still see them and I think it's a brilliant way to show that Obama is in touch with the nation of today.
This.
I don't get how people cite their ability to add realism to games as a positive thing. Realism can be good in certain contexts, so long as you're picking and choosing the good parts of reality to attempt to replicate. Never once have I been playing a game and thought 'You know, I don't think I'm being marketed to enough in my day to day activities. I think this game needs some ads, that would really make this a much more entertaining and immersive experience!'.
Unfortunately, there is a baffling number of people who not only don't mind being served advertisements in a game they paid $60 for, they actually seem to enjoy it. It's only going to get worse from here.
What if those game companies were using that ad money to hire more slav- I mean workers, which would improve the overall quality/ship date of said game?
I'm not entirely sold on the idea that's the typical case. It's likely more a cost-saving measure on behalf of the publisher to reduce their out-of-pocket investment, than it is a bonus that says 'Hey, here's some extra money, hire some more developers!'. If they need the ad revenue to make their game worthwhile, I'm going to guess there are other issues at hand besides a lack of resources.
I might be a little more inclined to agree with it if the savings were passed on to the consumer. Seeing as how I'm still paying the same amount for an experience that, all other factors being equal, has now been degraded, I'm still not convinced.
