NFL Week 7 - The seasons most boring week

looks like rodney harrison's injury last night may have ended his career. just read on PFT that schefter reported its a season ending and potentially career ending torn quad. i hate harrison with a passion and think hes a scumbag but its a shame this happened to him.

Harrison is more than likely done for his career (look at the hit, you could tell he is all done)

and there is also talk of Brady not being able to play another game til 2011 if the antibiotics for his knee infection dont work.

More evidence that Favre is a traitorous douche is welcomed by me. I loved watching him play as the QB of my favorite team, but between this and his wanting to play for the Vikings?

I'll say it again, fuck Favre. The Packers made the right decision. Favre didn't love us, his fans, nearly as much as we loved him. He didn't deserve us.

I don't want to jump entirely to Favre's defense (I didn't like some of his actions either), but neither you nor I fully understand what kind of shit comes with dealing with the offices of NFL teams. The relationship between franchise players and team management will almost always break down when that player has been there as long as Favre was with the Packers. Nevermind the team's unwillingness to even consider Randy Moss simply because he was formerly a high profile player for an NFC North rival, Favre was becoming increasingly unhappy in Green Bay. It's just an inevitable consequence of the way the NFL works. (I know Favre tries to talk down Randy Moss-related frustrations, but I feel it was a key catalyst, especially after Moss set that NFL record the year Favre wanted to be throwing passes to him.)

And who cares if Favre wanted to play for the Vikings? Shit, who wouldn't? Players want to win and even people who know nothing about the NFL would think that Favre/Peterson/Berrian sounds pretty sweet on paper. Favre playing on this year's Vikings team would be infinitely more entertaining than this Jackson/Frerotte struggle that is often painful to watch. A trade to an NFC North rival (or a release) never had the slightest chance at happening anyway; ensuring he wouldn't be in the NFC North (and probably the entire NFC) was the first priority for Green Bay once they knew he wasn't going to playing for them. "Fuck Favre" is a bit drastic, although many people from Wisconsin probably feel the same way you do. Fans tend to think they're more important than they really are. '-'; I'm sorry you're butthurt he was openly willing to play for a division rival; I actually like how frank he was with regards to that. Division rivalries aren't that damn important to players, especially players who just want to compete successfully and win.

I refuse to fault the Packers as an organization either; management shouldn't have to jump through hoops to the extent Favre seemingly expected this summer. The Packers, like any team in today's NFL, would prefer a skilled QB who has 10+ years left in the NFL over an openly unhappy, gunslinging QB with 2-3 years left in the NFL. He wasn't completely dedicated to his team (with which he was still under contract) and yeah, that is pretty shitty of Favre. I don't think that makes him a traitor or a douche, though. The whole situation shows that even in Green Bay, where football means more than it does anywhere else, isn't immune to player-management quarrels that seem to overwhelm today's NFL. If anything, I think Favre being frustrated makes him normal.. and isn't that why fans love him anyway? Favre would be pretty deep on my list of biggest douches in the NFL. >.>;

As much as he was dicking them around, I got the impression they were doing the same to him. It really seemed like, after they drafted a QB to replace him, they wanted him gone. But at the same time they didn't want him playing anywhere else. So much so that it was as if, for years, they were pressuring him into retirement. If they didn't want him on their team they could have cut him or traded him at any point in time, and they shouldn't have given him as long a contract as they did. They had him in a very locked position and held him there until he forced there hand (it took a a roster/salary cap deadline before they were willing to do anything with him).

However none of us will ever know what went on behind closed doors and everything I/you/[poster you were replying to] are all speculation.

Knowing the way the media is, this situation is most likely blown out of proportion. The NFL seems to be running a double standard in that it actively want to control all behavior but yet it want the media to run rampant, just so long as it's making headlines/keeping it on NFL on the front page.
