Hm, decided to give this game a try, but when I load the rom it says "The quick save log is corrupted", and takes me back to the title screen. It just takes me in a loop from there, same thing over and over, I can't start a new game or anything. It was the rom posted earlier in this topic, and I'm using no$gba 2.6a. Not really sure why it's trying to load from a quicksave. Anyone?

    edit: nvm fixed it <_<
but for anyone else dumb, i changed part of the config to
    NDS-Cartridge Backup Media == -Auto
it was set to something else before, but this works lol

For those using the ROMs interested in making a MKS map via the editor, one I whipped up has nothing but MKS on floor 11. Other mobs can spawn with them, but it's always at least one MKS.

Dungeon itself is right outside Tower of Nod, so need to beat the game first.

I'm facing a horrible dilemma right now.

I got my first map with MKS, but it sucks. No map is going to be a good exp spot unless I get lucky and get a floor with just MKS, which is, well, probably close to impossible.

So I'm basically stuck in the game, I need to grind jobs to 99, revocate, do all the fun stuff, I love to grind :/

but, the only way I'm really gonna be able to is if I cheat that map, but it just feels so dirty I loaded up that save editor yesterday and gave myself a map, reached the floor with MKS, felt disgusted and restored my save

I've spent a ton of time recently with this game, going to those events, meeting people, doing fun stuff, to just cheat feels like it would have made all of that incredibly pointless

idk, this game is ceasing to be fun for me, and I'm never really going to be able to "fully" beat it anyway, so kinda like, what's the point :/ think I might just put it down and start playing something else instead.

I want to go to the next one, if for no reason other than picking up the third shirt that they're going to be giving out + the last unobtainable boss map, but the mall they're doing it at is a little over two hours away from us in each direction.
None of the boss maps given out at these events are "unobtainable". They're all available as downloadable quests eventually.

Yeah, Zoma, Estark and Malroth's maps are all rewards from quests down the line. The events are really just a good way to get free shit and tags. Gotten like.. 8 shirts so far, rofl.

My wife got one that she wears proudly, but they didn't have any of them that could fit me, mainly because they had like, 1 Large, 2 Mediums and 6 smalls, so we got the last one that they had left in a random size just for the hell of it.

We got like.. 6 of those "It's Party Slime!" shirts from Best Buy though.

Yeah, the wife loves her blue one, she's not even contemplating wearing the Best Buy ones to my knowledge.

oh my god how did I miss the fact that the Stornway inn employs both a Patty and a Sellma?

also, there's a move in the Luminary's skill tree called "Disco Stew."

    this game rocks.

What's funny is that their names also make sense: Patty, Party, Sellma, Sell me or w/e.

Disco Stew is pretty fucking awesome, I'm just like, lol wat, every time I use it

I don't have Luminary yet but I just got my MKS/Moai Minstrel map, so I will soon. thank god, too. if this grotto didn't have MKS, I was considering just putting the game down for good. just killed my first MKS and it feels good, man.

I caved and gave myself that JP Masayuki map. Don't give a fuck about legitness anymore, and I fully blame the people who made this game.

In Japan, it works. There's a super super super super super small chance that SOMEONE will get an awesome map.

(255*32768, 8355840 total unique maps, who knows how many of those are maps with a MKS only floor? One could also hypothesize that there are also platinum jewel only floors that haven't been found yet, which are even harder to get, due to the higher quality needed, and all of the randomness.)

Now, why does this work in Japan? Well, it's simple. Out of all those tons of people playing it, you only need ONE person out of all of them to find a super awesome map. From there, they can start spreading it through all of Japan with much ease. So the fact that those maps are stupid fucking rare doesn't even matter, because once one is found, it will be spread to everyone.

Once you think of it that way, you can see how that just isn't going to work here. It took all of Japan how long for that one map to surface, with all those people playing? The chance of one person finding a good map is so retardedly small, and once they do find it, they probably wont even be able to spread it here, because this isn't Japan.

    So yeah.

Tag mode would work to the same effectiveness it does in Japan if every city in the US were like NYC. Problem is, (obviously) they aren't, and people in cities that are especially spread out are at a really huge disadvantage to finding the good stuff.

They honestly should've coded the tag mode to somehow be able to utilize the WiFi, but they designed the game with Japan in mind, and not the US, so I guess there's only so much bitching we can rightfully do about it.

Maybe they'll realize it sometime soon, but I doubt it, seeing as it took Nintendo almost 14 years to realize that 5 events in a couple malls around the US was a terrible method for distribution of Pokemon event stuff as opposed to local retailers (TRU) and the WiFi systems they use now.

I think they realize it, with the gamestop, bestbuy, and simon malls events, but all those are really going to be able to do is get people the 30 tags to upgrade their inn.

I understand that this game was developed with Japan in mind, and that's basically what I'm saying. The system just doesn't work here, it's not their fault. Well, it kind of is, as they were being greedy motherfuckers who only think of themselves. (sarcastic, kinda, but still has a point)

The point was, there is basically no way for NA to make use of tag mode and spread any good maps that people might find. idk, this is just me rationalizing so I don't feel bad about cheating to get the jp map

Haha, yeah. I don't know about the Simon Mall events though, they're doing one in Ohio, and it's in (arguably I suppose) one the worst locations possible, Cleveland. It's at least a 2+ hour drive away from anywhere else in the state.

God forbid someone from Cinci wanted to go to it, since that clocks in somewhere around 4+ hours each way. They were doing good with the GS/BB events, but this one, I dunno. The wife and I wouldn't mind going (free shirts, etc), but it's a 2+ hour drive from us, and we live in northern Columbus.

Anyhow, enough of my bitching. I totally get you, wasn't trying to make a point otherwise or anything, just chipping in my two cents on the whole thing. Nintendo has, more or less, learned how to do these types of things properly. The only thing I can think of is that they just didn't want to sink the kind of money into altering the game to suit US audiences (can't blame them, but they've done an awesome job in marketing a series that has met a decided lack of success in the US).

stupid tag mode. I've passed up two events that weren't even that far away because I don't want to spend my Saturday hanging out with other nerds that love Dragon Quest as much as I do, specifically for the purpose of playing and discussing the game.

wifi definitely should have been an option. sigh.

Why not? It was fun :D

And ditto on the simon malls, closest one is orlando which is a 2-3 hour drive, no thanks. I'll find my last 3 (FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK) tags somewhere

Yeah, my wife needs 1 more tag and I need 2 more. Fucking sucks.

As for the events, I was kind of surprised at the people that showed up. When I went to the FFXIII midnight release (last midnight thing I'll ever do) the majority of the people there were either unsightly, unwashed, abrasive, acted like they were from deep space nebula 16 or some combination of the prior offenses.

The DQIX events though, there was someone's grandmother, a couple of perfectly normal mobile technicians that worked for my wife's employer, and generally a bunch of perfectly normal folks from age 20-40ish. Granted, there were a couple creepy overweight guys with shirts that were too small, shorts and baseball caps at the Gamestop event that hid in the back and never said anything, but the DQIX events have thus far consisted of a lot of pretty normal people.
