Aeris is obviously the poster-child for sad video game scenes.

But definitely the part of MGS4 where it looked like everyone was going to be raped horribly and die was sad.

The most emotional part of that game was the final fight though - the three different forms, it just reminded you about the awesomeness of the series, all the fights you had been through, and the music was a nice touch too. As I went through that fight, I just got emotional knowing that this was, in fact, the end of a series that was so much fun and was so good.

That scene kinda moved me also. It was also only like what, 7-8 hours in at that point of the game? I was kinda surprised that they were already laying the drama on thick, especially when games usually save that kinda stuff for the later half where you already have that "aw shucks" feeling cuz you don't want the game to end. If they hadn't orchestrated the scene so well, I probably would have laughed instead.

    Gonna have to QFT.
That fight alone was probably the most emotional part of the game in my opinion... I think had I not played the other games, it probably wouldn't have hit home.
But that was a truly awesome scene that most any MGS fan should be able to appreciate and I thought it was very well done.
Obviously wasn't something to bring a tear to one's eyes, but definitely was powerful.

There's usually only one scene in a MGS game that gets me close to teary.
    Spoiler: show
MGS had Sniper Wolf, MGS2 had Emma, MGS3 had The Boss and MGS4 had the whole Microwave Corridor + Hal and Naomi

The bit with Wolf was pretty cool, but the scene with Psycho Mantis after you beat him was amazing imo.
Even though he's a phsychotic lunatic it really fleshes his character out and makes him seem human.

I didn't much care for Emma, and Otacon pisses me off.

I'll agree with The Boss and the Microwave, fuck Hal though.

I'll also agree with what was said about the last fight on MGS4, the last part of the punch-up where you're can barely move and throwing desperate punches is quite powerful considering its simplicity.

    Wild Arms 4th Detonator.
    Spoiler: show
    The scene during the ending credits when you see Arnaud's and Raquel's daughter and they show the picture where she's holding her as a newborn got me feeling like a little bitch >_>;

The beginning of the Hero's chapter in DQ4 made me sad back in the day.

Aeris was a good one but I was more in awe than sad for some reason.

I saw the Mother 3 part, that was sad too. Makes me understand why Lucas acts timid.

But the only one that came close to bringing me to tears that I can remember (besides Mystery Dungeon 2, I know >.>) was the Persona 3 FEES endgame stuff. That was overall pretty heart wrenching, especially when you find out
    Spoiler: show
the Hero is not only dead, but will never be at peace, constantly acting as the barrier between Nyx and the world. They mentioned it a little bit in Persona 4, apparently both Aigis and Elizabeth are trying to help him
It was probably the constant string of moments in that game, one or two usually isn't enough.

    Did no one mention FFIV?

I mean, hell, most of the characters end up getting killed or injured.

    Spoiler: show
Watching Palom and Porom sacrifice themselves shocked, awed, and made me cry.

    Poor kids.

His actual death (that is.. the one with Sora, not with Roxas) was a decent scene. Nothing compared to the others, but still..

Does anybody in FFIV actually stay dead? I can't remember a permanent death outside of bosses.

    Spoiler: show
Aside from peripheral characters like King Baron and Rydia's mom.

Actually, off the original SNES game...

    Spoiler: show
Palom and Porom die, the that Sage guy (Don't want to say Kraden... damn you Golden Sun!)... also, I forget if Cid died or not. Yang was left hurt, the bard was elft hurt, Rydia got recovered... I think that's about everyone.

It was hard for me to aknowledge him as MGS3 character in this scene. Dunno...I know who Big Boss is, but my brain keep telling it was Solid Snake I was controlling in MGS3.

Well, no one died per say.. but the scenes sure make you think that that's the case.

The twins get recovered eventually, Cid survives the fall and then fixes your airship when you get back down to the underworld, Our lovely spoony bard also survives and helps you with the elf fight, Yang survives as well, and Rydia takes a trip to wonderland with Leviathan.

I don't seem to recall the twins ever recovering in anything but FFIV DS. Maybe that's just my memory failing me, but I'm pretty sure they never recovered, and I'm pretty sure Tellah was about as dead as he could get.

They're seen non-stoned in the ending for all versions of the game, IIRC. You can also get every character but Tellah and FuSoYa back in the GBA version.

Letting Cid die in FFVI was pretty emotional as was Cyan's sidestory. I didn't realize for the longest time that you could actually save Cid's life but that part of the game is a lot happier if you do. How about Wild Arms when you have to choose to save Zed or not? And Chrono's death in Chrono Trigger is a pretty big one.

While Aeris' death was the big one people remember, who honestly didn't have it spoiled for them? I know somebody cracked an egg of knowledge over me on that one. Video games can be very moving.

Zed? Zed of all people? I didn't find that emotional at all. Crono's death was pretty epic, it was a moving scene, not to like, tears, but it was moving. And yeah, the first time I played through FFVI, I had no idea that you could save Cid from dying. Celes' attempted suicide in the wake of that was pretty wtf.

I wasn't very big on the internet back in 1997, so I didn't get it spoiled for me.
