Well, they need to stay warm first of all. I use a heating pad I got at a pet store for I think $45 (rip off) that I stick under his cage (just a standard guinea pig cage, fairly good size). For food, I buy a mix that the woman I bought him from sells which I recognize the Meow Mix in and supposedly there is a special kind of dog food mixed in for nutrition. I quickly found out that he likes to make a lot of noise at night when I'm trying to get my sleep on by using his wheel or occasionally climbing the walls of his cage to the top, then falling down on his ass because he can't get back down which makes me nervous, but I don't think he does it any more.
The main problem is, he's not very social. He doesn't like to be held, touched, poked or petted in anyway and also doesn't enjoy loud noises at all. Picking him up will often result in him rolling into a ball and giving you the spikes that manage to land under your finger nails and make you go ouchles. So it requires a lot of time and patience really when holding him and letting him get used to you. I've had him for about 4 months now and hold him probably 3-4 times a week and he's still a major grumphog.
The spikes don't really hurt that bad, they've never made me bleed but are just an annoying prick. However he has bitten me twice which really fuckin hurt.
have you found any golden rings?
And they smell like fucking shit. My old step-sisters did at least.
I always wanted a Hedgehog for a pet. :\
No rings yet, although I was considering coloring him blue for Halloween tomorrow and attaching some extra tails to my orange cat.
My hedgehog smells fine >.> I put him in the bathtub with some warm water in it and scrub him with a toothbrush with some animal shampoo every 10 days or so.
I bet he fucking loves that, rofl.
Sue me, I watched alot more TV as a kid D:

Yes, and oh god this quote is golden about it, from wikipedia:
Anthony Bourdain, while a lover of durian, relates his encounter with the fruit as thus: "Its taste can only be described as...indescribable, something you will either love or despise. ...Your breath will smell as if you'd been French-kissing your dead grandmother."
