    Cry moar.

    Around here the prices are about $1.40 AUD per litre

    1AUD = 0.67USD
    1 Gallon = 3.78 Litres

    If we were to pay by gallons, we'd be paying 5.29 AUD (3.59 USD). We get ripped off hardcore. God I hate living on the opposite side of the rest of the world.

    Oh did I mention these are some of the lower prices? They've been up to $1.60 / $1.75 too, nothing like blowing 50 bucks on petrol.

    Gas prices were $4.60 in June in california, so....NO U!

    Hmm, this is a cool fucking site: http://www.californiagasprices.com/price_by_county.aspx It's interesting how the prices consistently change across state lines, wonder what's going on there.

    Yeah, I was feeling excited about it being less than $3 here in california, then I see some people below $2... fuck you. >:O

    This is pretty old (June 2007) but I think its still decent reference to how expensive gas is elsewhere. I remember seeing a picture earlier this year with a similar break down of international fuel prices (I think it was on here actually, in the thread about Lorry drivers going on strike in Spain), maybe someone has that one on an off chance?

    England wins once more. I knew there was a reason I don't own a car. Stop bitching about your petrol prices, Americans; you're getting it half-price.

    I'm not quite sure on current exchange rate but that looks accurate for London/UK. It went up as high as £1.29/litre during summer, it's now down to £0.99ish which is what it was last year.

    All those other countries also have a lot better public transportation than the US does. We're car-centric.

    Yeah, I was about to say something along those lines... big cities around the world in general have decent public transport wheter you're in New York, Paris or London. God forbid you stray outside though, if you live in England outside the M25 (highway that circles London) you're very car-dependant. Hell, the three months I was in middle of Iceland on the black sands and volcanoes near Vatnajokull glacier that looks like Mordor and where they used to train NASA astronauts to deal with emptiness the bus service was better than in British Midlands. And they didn't stink of piss and vomit.

    Thing is, that's still probably better than most of the U.S. For many Americans, there's no realistic option for public transportation. Europe, in general anyway, has things closer together because a lot of it was around before cars were common (or in existence at all). Everywhere I've lived outside of the U.S., or my parents have, has had public transportation within walking distance, to include England (though it was not as comprehensive as, say, Germany's, and we still drove often).

    Des Moines, IA's bus system is a joke. They rammed into enough pedestrians early this year that there was next to no confidence in our bus system. Plus their routes are limited and pick up times few and far between. My old house was 50ft (~15m) away from a bus stop and I only heard the bus drive past once a day. We have no subway, no trains (unless you're a soybean) either.

    I guess I can't complain too much. Even if our bus system worked I work nights, so they wouldn't help me. Plus gas is so cheap here compared to just about anywhere else.

    Anyway, image thread. Back on topic for me.
