    Must Play Sega CD Games

So I'm working on building up my Sega CD library and I'm specifically looking to play through some of the better RPGs I may have missed. Here's what I got so far:

    Lunar: Silver Star
    Lunar: Eternal Blue
    Dark Wizard
    Shining Force CD
    Sol Feace

So what should I look into?

The Lunar games and SF:CD are pretty much the top tier for SCD RPGs. Others you may want to look into are Vay and Popful Mail, both were released in the states by Working Designs. If you're into Gauntlet-style arcade/action RPGs, there's a game called Dungeon Explorer which is a remake of an old Turbo Duo game by the same name. It's well done for what it is, but not everyone enjoys that type of game.

EDIT: For Dungeon Explorer, the Turbo Grafx version is better. Of course, I'm not sure how many people have a Turbo Duo chilling in their living room like I do these days.

Would that be worth looking into on the Wii VC? I do enjoy some Gauntlet.

Not that I can recall. And wasn't SF:CD missing a disc from the American localization or something? I seem to remember there being some major drama about that game way back when.

Nope, no Phantasy Star for Sega CD and that's probably for the best. Working Designs seemed to know what they were doing moving over to a stronger (extension of a) platform whereas Sega seemed to just flub things up (with the notable exception of Sonic CD).

I think you might be thinking about SF3 for Saturn. It was released in Japan as it's own trilogy. In the States, they only released the first of the three parts.

Yep, when I think SEGA CD, I think Sewer Shark.
Easily the most interesting game on there.

And wintersquall... until you earn a better one, your callsign is DOGMEAT.

I like how Beach Bum is better than Eradicator. Yep, I've got Sewer Shark around here somewhere.

Popful Mail and Vay are must-have IMO, both are fun games.

They actually just re-released Vay for the iPhone... I played it through again and had a great time doing so.

Sonic CD and Snatcher aren't terrible either and you can get Sonic for pretty cheap.

But Popful Mail is one of my all-time favorites... such quirky humor.

Sega CD version of Earthworm Jim was also one of the top versions of that game >.>

Sonic CD is available in some of the collections though. Snatcher would be interesting I think.

    <3 Earthworm Jim, underrated game.

Man, all this Sega CD talk is making me think about dusting off my old system.

You can also play them on your PC using Gens too and the game files / BIOS are pretty easy to find using google.

Snatcher, Vay, Lunar:TSS, and Lunar: EB.

Four of the best games ever made.

VAY... Both Lunars.... pretty much anything by work designs tends to be good in my book... heard their DS game sucked though...

Vay for the iPhone... I played it, but I think they changed the dialog around WAYY too much, and they really nerfed the game. They made every battle yield like, 500% of the XP you would normally get.

I recommend Sonic CD also... 'cause it has the best theme song of any game ever created... it's one of the unlockable songs in Brawl.
