I wonder why it hasn't become particularly obvious that keeping people who want to marry their own sex is pretty much like not letting people of different ethnicities marry, or just changing the name to anything other than marriage so they can't have what the others have; it's a symbolical rejection of rights. It's kind of silly, even if i don't like marriage.

Well, that's certainly a good thing for the practitioner I guess. It's still a sad state of affairs that a law like this even has to be used. Shitty parents need to be stabbed in the face with a scalpel. Children and young adults should feel comfortable telling their parents anything...I think Obama said it best (Oh, no I didn't) when he said that parents should be a child's first and primary role-model.

But the point is that the supreme court ruled that according to the constitution their opinion on this does not matter that they do not have the right to prevent interracial couples from marrying. Why is gay marriage any different why is it even an issue?

How can the supreme court or any court rationalize ruling against gay marriage when the precedence is set already?

In California, that's exactly how it happened. The Supreme Court looked hard at the California constitution, said "nope, nothing in here preventing gays from getting married" and therefore gays can marry. That's why this isn't a law (since it would get struck down), it's an amendment to the state constitution.

Regular people don't have much respect for the sanctity of the constitution (state or federal) because they are morons, so they don't understand the difference and don't care.

The same sex issue has gotten completely ridiculous. When I was apart of the elementary education major at my college I read a book about two male penguins who raised a baby penguin at the Central Park Zoo. Out of a class of 27 future teachers, only 2 people besides me said they would ever read this book in class. When I posed the question about why I couldn't read this book for a student who has gay parents to make sure that child doesn't feel ostracised, the general consensus was "It's probably only going to be one student, so we shouldn't corrupt the minds of the rest of the students with this kind of thing."

I don't get that whole fucking preoccupation conservatives have about gay marriage. I think the shit Sarah Palin is making her daughter do is a lot more damaging to the institution then letting 2 guys marry eachother, not that the institution is fucking perfect as is considering the high rate of divorce. Also, the whole unnatural/you can make them straight bit really cracks me up too, theres genetic proof gay people are different from straight people, as well as countless examples of it occurring in other animal species and in history. Shit the ancient greeks thought sex with a man was better than with a woman since women are dumber then men and sex with your intellectual equal is more stimulating.

I wonder if any of the irony is lost on the Mormon Church that is championing this shit in California, that the last time conservatives tried to define marriage as based between a man and a woman with a national constitutional amendment was to impede Utah and thus Mormons from joining the union.

Obviously voting "No" on Prop. 8 because I'm gay, but the whole proposition just makes being gay less acceptable. It will definitely make it harder to teach tolerance in school.
And no, it does not take funding away from churches, and it does not destroy any one's marriage like all the stupid ads say.
