Week 7 sucked and we should just stop talking about it now. Onto week 8 already!
Any respectable gambler (oxymoron) can tell you that gambling NFL early season is ridiculous. It's easier to predict the lines after about week 7 or week 8. Why? Well, as teams have showed us in the past, you can get a chip on your shoulder and make a nice early run that is absolutely meaningless. Teams will come out thinking they are better than they really are, overachieve, and win some games. Bad teams can't sustain this for more than a half a season however. After week 7 and week 8, teams that are good will emerge, and teams that are overachieving will fall off. So who's overachieving? Who's going to emerge. What are your midseason picks. Let's have a look!
Oakland @ Baltimore - Neither of these teams are that great. Baltimore showed some early signs of life, and Flacco has played good enough to not lose them any games. This isn't going to be a shootout, so I'll have to take the better defense. Ravens win.
Arizona @ Carolina - Battle of two playoff teams! I'm not sure if the Panthers will take the division or the wild card, but I think they'll get there. They're moving the ball quite well, and Delhomme seems to be back to a respectable form. Warner is playing like a god...but then again, that WR trio could probably make Kyle Orton look good...shit, that doesn't fit. Two good 2 loss teams flying somewhat under the radar. Don't know who to pick here, so I'll lean to the home team.
Tampa Bay @ Dallas - Look, Dallas is riddled with injuries. They are bad, real bad, but they aren't out. I think both of these teams also make the playoffs. I also think that Brad Johnson is getting some much needed reps with the first team. Dallas avenges an embarassing loss last week and pulls it out.
Washington @ Detroit - Washington may be the best team in their division, they may be the worst. I don't know. This is one of the teams that had a great early season run and could possibly fall off. I'm not sure yet. Still, they're going to beat Detroit who stands a somewhat viable chance at going 0-16.
Buffalo @ Miami - Buffalo is the product of an easy schedule. Akin to the Browns of last year. Still, they are in the weakest division in football and their schedule doesn't get much harder. Possibly one of the easiest schedules in the NFL. With that said, they were a damn good team last year and they are a damn good team this year and they'll make the playoffs. I think Miami keeps this game interesting...actually, I think Miami wins.
St. Louis @ New England - The battle for the division is going to be fun. I don't know who's going to win it, New England or Buffalo. I think they both get in because of favorable schedules. New England is also riddled with injuries, however, Bellichick is brilliant at gameplanning around players. Sammy Morris is a pretty good back and Cassel isn't losing any games for them. New England ends the Rams short-lived run.
San Diego @ New Orleans - At New Orleans??? No, at London. This is a fucking horrible idea. Why the fuck do they do this stupd shit. Those god damned europeans don't give two shits about american football. Now you are fucking Nawlins out of a home game. I could rant on about this for days...it's so damned stupid. Oh, almost forgot...Bolts win the game and their division. Nawlins is sitting home in the post season.
Kansas City @ New York Jets - The Jets may be the worst team in their division. Not quite sure yet. I really don't think they are playing that well. Still, Kansas City is much worse than they are, and that saddens me...I love Herm. Nonetheless, no Johnson, no Croyle, no offense, nothing great on defense. Grats Jets on a gimme with the weeks largest point spread (13).
Atlanta @ Philidelphia - Atlanta is a hot early team who will begin their descent. It's not that they aren't good, I think they are much much improved. Mike Smith is easily the coach of the year. Still, Phili is about to make a huge push toward the top of that division. I don't know if they make the playoffs, but I don't think three teams from that division make it.
Cleveland @ Jacksonville - Cleveland is abysmal. Jacksonville is still hoping to nab a playoff spot. Jacksonville will take this game with a fair amount of ease. I don't think that Jacksonville ends up in the post-season however.
Cincinatti @ Houston - This could be one of Cinci's best chances to steal a win. Neither of these teams are special at all. Houston is giving up 9.5 for this game, which is a pretty big number for the Texans. I don't know, I'm going to go out on a limb and predict Cinci comes out with their first win.
New York Giants @ Pittsburgh - The #1 and #2 teams in the league in my opinion. GREAT FUCKING MATCHUP, and possible Superbowl precursor. Man, it sucks for the West Coast who won't get to see this game. Pitt is pretty banged up, losing their top 2 RBs, although Parker could come back. I really don't even think it matters, Pitt wins regardless.
Seattle @ San Francisco - Another meaningless game. I feel bad for Holmgreen, it's his last year and I sure bet he wishes he could be in Cabo right now. I think Hasselbeck could come back this week, not sure on latest reports. If Hasselbeck plays, Seattle wins...if not...49ers.
Indianapolis @ Tennesee - Man, it's like fucking christmas this week. Makes up for the terrible fucking week we had this past week. OK, so Tennesee is running the ball as good as anyone and Indianapolis couldn't stop Weltall if he was rushing for the Titans. Manning was terrible against a mediocre Green Bay defense and the Titans are playing the best defense in the league. This is just screaming route. What's that you say LVSC? Titans -4? Wut? Tennesee gets about a 3 point boost just from being at home, you think they are practically even on a neutral field? Damn vegas people are idiots with their millions and millions of dollars and fancy hotels. MANNING COMES OUT WITH AN AMES NASA INSTALLED ROCKET ARM AND TURBO BOOSTER KNEES. ALBERT HAYNESWORTH GETS SHOT AND HIS HEAD IS BLOWN OFF IN CROSSFIRE BETWEEN MANNING AND WAYNE. COLTS PUT UP 187 POINTS ON TENNESEE AND WIN 32 - 17.
Is it Sunday yet? I will basque in the oncoming posts of justufied reasons why the Colts will get blown out and I cannot argue against other than sticking my thumbs in my ears and screaming "NA-NA-NA-BOO-BOO"
