    Micro ATX/SFF Case - Questions

Those of you who are familiar (more than I) with Mini/Micro ATX Tower Cases and Small Form Factor (SFF) cases. I'm looking for one, as I wanna go much smaller with my machine, as I'm tired of looking at the beast that is the Antec 900.

The only problem I'm having with finding a small Micro/Mini case is that I want to retain my cooling, which is a Thermalright Ultra-120 extreme

Does anyone know of any Small Form Factor or Micro ATX cases that could support this heatsink's size ?

I've never seen one that'd come anywhere near taking that.

Honestly though, if you're doing so much computing that you need extensive cooling like that, you'd be fairly daft to significantly reduce airflow by going mini

I wouldn't go mini-atx if the air-flow wasn't sufficient enough to keep my components cool, obviously

    Anyways, I think I found what I was looking for, Lian-Li A05 A

Didn't mean to patronise, I've just seen people underestimate before and end up wasting money.

That case looks pretty sweet assuming the Ultra fits, I wouldn't even worry about that one reviewer's concern about the PSU airflow if you can get that huge HSF in.

Post back with results please? I'm finding space at a premium, between myself and my girlfriend we have 5 towers in the office >_>

    it's a mid-tower, but a very very small one, it's probably the smallest a mid-tower could be, before becoming a micro-ATX case

anyways, i like it! it's small, kinda chubby in regards to width but it has to be to accomodate my HS, front-to-back dimensions don't matter to me

it's honestly about height, and this case is great for me because I don't have to upgrade my motherboard to a micro-atx board

could probably grab a HTPC case that'd end up even smaller and still fit everything

I think it looks like ass but it is small and would have more than enough airflow for your needs I would assume.

the skeleton is ugly as fuck, and i'm not even sure if that overhead fan would be in the way of a 160mm (6.2")high heatsink

also, an HTPC case wouldn't fit my heatsink, i've already looked at probably 100 cases online already from different manufacturers

What about going into water cooling and get one of the units where the radiator sits outside the case in its own box?

That might let you get into a really small case, although you do have another box to deal with now. Most SFF probably wont fit your heatsink as they are either to small to fit such a tall unit or if they are tall enough you end up installing 5.25" drives over the top of the CPU again causing it to not fit.

If you really want a smaller case you might need to give up the oversized heatsink. As a last shot have you though about this case? It might serve your needs, if not you probably can find something if you look for ATX MidTower or MicroATX MidTower cases. Those would be the smallest cases that could possibly fit your heatsink.
