I bet if there was a gun in that desk, other precautions would have been taken and it wouldn't have been "unattended". Very poor justification.
Edit: We debated the "teachers carrying" topic a few months ago. I actually argued against it, but not for the reason that it wasn't needed, I just find it hard to believe a teacher could pull the trigger on a 17 year old kid, even if they are firing away at kids in the lunchroom. I still have a hard time wrapping my head around it, but that's probably because of the mindset I have.
Guarantee if you ask a Cop if CC is a good Idea he''ll probably clock you over head for asking such a stupid question.
The school in question had increased its security prior to this incident?
You're speaking to me as if increasing security is supposed to stop school shootings; it isn't, but it's supposed to lower the chances and the severity of it, which so is allowing people to carry guns on campus, but i we can safely go with the more moderate option, and if you're going to increase security to keep guns out of a campus... why would you ask for guns on a campus?
It does not make sense for you to say that increasing security hasn't worked, when you are clearly not comparing a thing. You might want to elaborate.
So if more people have guns then these shooters will be less likely to attack the unarmed people because they would fear for getting shot themselves?
What general % of people would need concealed weapons to make this less likely? How would the killers know that this danger is there if it's concealed? Would the drop in these killings due to this fear of facing other armed people be greater than more potential killings from more people having guns in general, surely some of these people carrying guns will have accidental discharges or angry outbursts where they aren't thinking clearly and reach for their gun rather than just punch someone.
These school shooters often end up shot by police anyway so why would they be scared to die? Do they just think about killing as many people as possible and death doesn't really scare them so the thought of not being able to kill as many people will deter them? If that's true wont they (the killer) just spend less time stalking the halls feeling empowered killing slowly and shoot as fast and as many people as possible before someone takes out their concealed gun and takes out the gunman.
Perhaps far fetched but maybe the would be killers will just act smarter about it and start their rampage in a class that they know will be less likely to have people with concealed weapons, like a cooking class or something.
I think if someone is determined to go on a rampage they will figure out a way to do it, and unless we have 50% of the school population carrying guns, which will never happen, I don't think these killers will be stopped or slowed to an extent that overall lowers the total killings.
As a college student myself I'm honestly not sure if I'd feel more secure or more in danger by CC.
Back in HS I would for sure feel more in danger, those teachers would probably shoot themselves on accident as soon as they held a gun.
