    FFXI under OSX?

Anyone here that managed to get FFXI running satisfactory under OSX through a virtual OS by any chance?

Been playing around with Paralells lately for shits and giggles, and surprisingly it ran, albeit with a massive visual glitch with player models

Anyone have some experience in this area or have tried this with VMWare yet? Just trying to find an excuse to reboot into WinXP less often to play FFXI, even if it means a slight hit in the FPS.

I have read that it works (though with lousy performance) using VMWare Fusion. I have Parallels myself, but since I only have reason to use my Macbook to play if I'm away from home...don't usually mess with it.

Unsure how performance would be in Parallels if that visual glitch wasn't present, as it runs a steady 25-30fps during any section when no player models are present (empty zone + first-person view, or the menu screen before and after character select), and I'm assuming that glitch is fucking up with the fill-rate on the polys, making it harder on the emulated vid card to process.

Try VM out. Its generally better than Parallels in terms of 3d performance.

I have both Parallels and VMWare (although the former stopped working a while ago and I'll be damned if I can remember why). I haven't had any luck with VM, most likely due to having shitty integrated graphics (plain old base macbook from 06 before the C2D refresh). It tends to freak out when anything involving DX comes up, I haven't managed to make it past the POL login screen.

Got around to trying VMWare out finally, and dear god, the thing is unplayable at 1-10fps depending on how much crap is onscreen. Oh well, was worth a shot

I would try wine, it might even be worth the purchase. Otherwise just dual boot windows.

The FFXI descript on it shows a fair amount of Linux users experiencing graphical glitches and slowdowns as well.

does boot camp still work? avoid all the fuss of emulation and just run it as it is. . .

Then I have to deal with the fuss of rebooting my rig into an operating system that doesn't have the luxuries I already got on its main OS.

    What's your setup Kaisha?

I've been thinking of giving it another go with the latest VMware, thinking that the speed can be overcome with just raw CPU power, lol.
