I'll put money down on Cote simply because the Vegas odds have him as a major underdog. If he wins, a 50 dollar bet could net me like 250 bucks.

I never once endorsed the notion of Silva undeniably going to win. Most likely? Yeah but obviously nothing is 100% in MMA. On the other hand, to say Cote " is a man on a mission and he has a better chance of beating anderson than anyone out there right now" is a crock of shit. The man wasn't even originally scheduled to fight Silva in the first place.
Just found it funny how the same people in this thread picking Cote were the same ones picking Liddell last time.
Meh, that fight was boring until Rashad knocked Liddel the fuck out. "winning" when no one is getting hurt is a technicality.
Is it really any different? So be it, ask and ye shall receive...

Number one, calm down. Number two, lucky punch? LOL It's pretty well established by now that Liddell got knocked the fuck out for having his hands down like an amateur. That story is over anyways so its just mere digression. Some of you need to take the stick out your asses, after that take a deep breath and relax. Realize your picks just seem more like a "bet-against-the-odds" style vegas gambling rather then educated guesses.
I see Cote getting leben'd except it won't be nearly as lopsided. Both Leben and Hendo have iron jaws like Cote but they were both rocked pretty bad. Anderson probably has just as good a chin as those 3 guys but he barely has to rely on it with his avoidance. Anderson has better power, speed, overall striking really and defense. His ground game is much better and his only skill that may be worse than cote's is his wrestling but it won't really matter with a fighter like cote since I don't see him being able to unload some gnp with having to worry about sweeps and Andersons legs wrapping around him and slapping on a triangle.
It will take at least 5 lucky punches to win this fight standing up for Cote. If and when Anderson loses it will likely be to someone with average to strong wrestling and an excellent bjj game or a very strong wrestler with good submission defense winning a possibly 'boring' lnp decision.
Well I would have to qualify Anderson getting 1 punched as a 'super' lucky punch. What I was trying to say was a regular lucky punch won't be good enough here. For instance, if cote and Franklin fought a lucky punch landed on rich would not be lucky enough/perfect enough if it lands on Anderson. Not sure if that made sense.
Anyway ufc 90 countdown on spike right now.
Also, I'm not a big fan of the term "lucky" in MMA. If I'm throwing a punch at your face, and I hit your face, and you get knocked out, that's not luck. It's not like I was trying to kick and accidentally threw a punch or something.
You throw a strike trying to connect and do as much damage as you can with it.
Lucky in MMA is a takedown where a guy tries to catch himself and dislocates his elbow. Punching a guy in the face and knocking him out isn't luck.
Lucky as in if 2 people were to fight for 10 hours straight and 1 person would only ever land 5 good punches on the otherguy, and 1 knockout punch over those 600 minutes. So if this fight is just 15-25 mins then this person landing the punch that knocks someone out would be unlikely or 'lucky'
Also a lot of things go on from when you throw that punch that you can't control. You can throw one punch under your control but which way your opponent moves while that punch is incoming will affect how strong and well it lands. Sure you can time your opponents movements to a certain degree but a fair bit of landing it on that sweet spot is out of the punchers control, this is especially true against a fighter like Anderson who reacts very well to the person punching.
Going to have to chime in here and say there's definitely such a thing as a lucky punch. Just a hypothetical: I have awesome evasion and defense, and have evaded and blocked 95% of my opponent's punches. I've countered many of the punches he's thrown on top of pressuring him to move backwards the whole fight, and then I throw out a combo and make a mistake of dropping my left too far when throwing a right cross. My opponent just ate a stiff double jab as I was setting up the right cross and he blindly throws out a looping right and catches me on the jaw, dropping me. It wasn't that he saw the opening, or that he was doing well in the fight, rather he tossed out a hail mary punch with the intent of creating some distance between us, and got lucky. So yeah, it does happen.
I agree with Hirokei about Chuck. He has notoriously bad defense and drops his hands WAY too often. Some people think it's to draw his opponents in close, but even if it is it's a stupid gamble on his part. At the very least when he's throwing his punches he needs to keep his hands up to avoid counters, but he doesn't.
*bump* It's fight time. Anyone watching this tonight?
