As for me personally, I do care, I just know the limits of my own actions. I do (did, now that I quit) what's in my power to prevent people who buy and sell gil and accounts from succeeding. I stopped them from entering the LSs I was in whenever possible. I don't associate with them, and I generally won't even party with them if I'm quite sure that they RMT.

You're one to talk about Ad hominem. But cancer is not like the RMT issue. You can take personal steps against it. You don't need a doctor/SE to do things for you. A lot of people can work together against RMT, which affects everyone. Whereas your cancer only affects you, physically. Thus, your analogy is false.

If there's one thing I've learned, it's that you rarely can convince someone on a forum. If someone wants to disagree with me, fine. That is their choice. The issue obviously isn't very important to them.

I told him that nikkei was pissed at the way people like him were acting and he ignored it, maybe for a split second you should try not to believe everyone who claims the system is out to get them. Most of us (them) don't want to go through the bullshit of hearing some self-righteous whiney fuck bitch about why his breaking the rules should be the exception. If you go about whatever sort of shenanigans you want to pull by just asking the right question beforehand you more than cover your ass.

Before someone claims hypocrisy in the last statement, I never said I should be the exception to anything, I'm just entertained by the late reaction and the reject reasoning behind it.

According to you, there is something you can do about RMT and brain cancer, so you're talking out of your ass about the fallacy already. Further, cancer is a prolific ailment, found in many people. It doesn't simply affect the people with the disease, it can do horrible emotional damage to the patient's family members. Many doctors research ways to combat it. Good diet and holistic crap may have it's effects, but without proper medical care, someone with cancer will succumb to it. The individual works by educating himself about the disease and the medical organizations work to destroy the root of the problem. Everyone involved works on it, but only the organizations and the disease have any real power.

Cancer is very much like the RMT situation, since it's eating away at our community and sometimes it sprouts hair and teeth. If it were exactly the same, it wouldn't be a fucking analogy, but I'll explain the main points for you. They're both problems with solutions and just as a doctor wont do everything they can about a tumor if a person doesn't have enough insurance, SE wont do more without enough incentive, e.g. the PW/AV situation. In both situations there's little to nothing the patient can do about it on their own (the patient can be the game or the player, works either way).

Also, you being an idiot and my pointing it out have nothing to do with your shitty point, since I can and have disproved it without attacking your intellect or character, you dumbshit. However, I find it interesting how you're so into your little crusade, but you wont do anything about the people who disagree with you, who seem to be the majority. I told you 2 days before the rule went up that it was going up, and where it was going to apply to specifically (I said to keep it in your own topic [IN SPAM, where it was ok] practically verbatim), again it's not my fault you chose to ignore me (in before you say something like well you lied before what was stopping you then).

And I lied at first because I for some reason thought saving face was worth more than just saying fuck it and being done with it, I decided otherwise after 3 or so days of feeling sick about it. Reading this thread makes me want to quit FFXI. How do you boil a live frog? Place it in cold water and slowly increase the heat. Paying $15 a month for 5 years of play is $900. ToS aside, are your 4 characters worth $900? Say you only have 18 months of gameplay, that means that $640 of the 900 wasn't even being used. With the invention of Ebay, anything you could normally throw away in your house can be sold for a little bit to compensate you.

This sort of goes along with the "not caring" mentality of quitting and for whatever reason, you feel entitled for some sort of compensation for time wasted (or not used). So is the real worth of your character based on the play time in money spent for the monthly fee?

As far as e-famous goes, it's missing the point. It's not so much how famous you are, but what kind of reputation you have. If someone has a neutral reputation and they sell their account, the majority of people won't care. If they have a bad reputation, they'll just add more wood to the fire. If they have a good reputation, people will just say they're sorry to see the person go and they had a lot of good times. If Ruke suddenly had to permanently quit, it's highly doubtful people would hold Salem trials on him simply because he has a good reputation, not because he's famous.

Selling your account reminds me of "Tips when selling a puppy." One tip was to charge some amount of money. It could be $5 but it has to be something. This prevents the buyer from giving the puppy back, or you be able to take the puppy back. If you are giving something in exchange for the account, it becomes yours. I suppose this point is only for the people who give their accounts away, then want it back with everything on it.

And what the fricken hell is up with people not understanding what an analogy is? Comparing the cause and effect of rape, murder, cancer to RMT is not saying RMT is rape, murder or cancer. I have a pet peeve when people get on their high horse when an analogy is used. Analogies allow perspective on a subject by relating the cause and effect of something else that holds some similarities (ie RMT/cheating and murder are both wrong). It's so sad that I have to explain what an analogy is.

If I were sell my account when I quit, I'd only ask for the play time based on monthly fees and it would go to a friend. The friend buying it prevents me from taking the character back later if I felt like I needed a fix. But I don't know anyone who has $400 to shell out, so the whole issue for me is moot.
